July 13, 2015 2:20 am at 2:20 am #1091701☕️coffee addictParticipantwolf,
what? you want me to give names of organizations that are doing this?
July 13, 2015 2:32 am at 2:32 am #1091702WolfishMusingsParticipantwhat? you want me to give names of organizations that are doing this?
No, I wasn’t asking for that. I didn’t even know that anyone was doing it. Oh, well… my stupidity shows again. Please forget I said anything.

July 13, 2015 11:51 am at 11:51 am #1091705zahavasdadParticipantI dont know anything about this event so what I am posting is just conjecture.
If it is some sort of summer Tzedakah event because there are only so many sundays in the summer its tough and its worse this year with 17 Tammaza and Tisha Bav being on a Sunday along with a Sunday during the 9 days. 3 Sundays are lost (Sundays are the best days for a fundraiser). There are other origanizations doing fundraisers too so needed funds might not get collected.
So they must have gotten like some sort of Heter like a Siyum or something to get permission for this fundraiser
July 13, 2015 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm #1091706TheGoqParticipantIf they were bbqing tofu instead of meat would it be ok>?
July 13, 2015 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm #1091707☕️coffee addictParticipantzdad,
but the barbecues are during the week
additionally i don’t think one is allowed to make a siyum just to have meat (i’ve asked a shaylah especially since one of my grandfather’s yahrtzeit is during the nine days)
goq,
yes
July 13, 2015 6:30 pm at 6:30 pm #1091708apushatayidParticipantwhy would it be ok? the 9 days are not days for partying. even for a good cause.
July 13, 2015 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #1091709☕️coffee addictParticipantbecause there is no simcha in tofu (believe me) if someone made a “party” with just sitting around and doing nothing it would be muttar too
July 13, 2015 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm #1091710homerMemberWe are so smart these days.We eat more meat during the nine days than a whole year round.H’Y
July 13, 2015 10:12 pm at 10:12 pm #1091711apushatayidParticipantI agree, tofu and just sitting around is not a party. I would imagine this isnt what happens at these tzedaka bbqs. surely isnt what happened at the bbq that recently took place and whose pictures are posted here on ywn.
July 13, 2015 10:43 pm at 10:43 pm #1091712David Bar-MagenMemberSomewhat unrelated, but I am currently seeking advice on whether or not I am allowed to either shave, trim and wear a clean suit for a job interview scheduled during the Nine Days?
The company in question is not Jewish and I have strong reason to believe my looking unkempt would detract significantly from my chances of getting this job.
July 13, 2015 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #1091713David Bar-MagenMemberSpecifically, is it even possible to claim “hefsed mamon” when the mamon in question is theoretical? I’ve learned that fear of mockery is insufficient reason to shave, so I don’t know if I have a leg to stand on, here.

One does not ask for halachic advice on an anonymous message board; instead, one contacts his rav and asks a proper shayla.
July 14, 2015 11:46 pm at 11:46 pm #1091715David Bar-MagenMemberYou and I both know that half if not more of the subjects discussed here would be better discussed between the topic starter and his/her rav.
THAT SAID, my intention is to inspire discussion, as I believe is usually the case on a message board of any caliber.
