I was wondering…
When do I start registering for Babies R Us, etc?
How will I know when it starts kicking?
When should I start looking for childcare?
I know it sounds a long way off but I’m due before R”H and since I am new at this I need some advice!
April 7, 2011 2:08 am at 2:08 am #756858☕️coffee addictParticipantMay I be the first to say MAZAL TOV!
we had our kid a week before R”H too,
You can register for Babies r Us now, (it can’t hurt)
May I suggest getting what to expect when you’re expecting, it’s a great step by step book

That is what i should say (I don’t know why i don’t)
so anyway B’shah Tovah U’mitzlacha
April 7, 2011 2:57 am at 2:57 am #756861anonymrsParticipantregistering you can do whenever you want, just make sure to keep your registry updated, as things may go out of stock.
kicking you may not recognize until later. it may feel gassy, or fluttery, or like i real kick, only much softer. i had that with my fifrst one really early, can you imagine???? i was feeling things at 13-14 weeks, and ppl told me im nuts, and i would say i know i am, but i still know what i felt.
about the child care, i wouldnt start looking till closer to the end of the school year. by the way, i heard theres a new baby sitter in your neighborhood who is REALLY inexpensive!! you should check her out. as far as i know she doesnt have any other kids yet.
April 7, 2011 3:01 am at 3:01 am #756862aries2756ParticipantYogi, you have plenty of time to register. Wait till at least 6 months, things change and new products come on the market all the time. So wait a while.
You probably won’t feel anything till at least the end of the 4th or somewhere in the 5th month and that will just be like a butterfly fluttering. As the baby grows you will feel some other things like rolling, hiccups and kicking when it is bigger and more developed. You can track the baby’s growth online as well as what you should expect.

To answer your questions!
– U will definitely know when it’s kicking. If u need to ask, then it’s not kicking!!
– Some people have the minhag not to prepare in advance vis-a-vis childcare until after the birth. Others do.
Btw, I would suggest cooking & freezing food for R”H and for a few days if u r going to be home after the blessed event.
Make sure to take your prenatal vitamins & eat healthier!

April 7, 2011 8:47 am at 8:47 am #756868m in IsraelMemberPregnancy is full of “weird pains”! Keep in mind that when you register at Babies R Us, they often offer you discounts down the line on things on your registry that weren’t yet bought. Also you get on their mailing list for coupons — and a few times a year they send out a booklet with coupons on the big ticket items like car seats and cribs, so registering sooner will give you more time to potentially get those coupons before you make your purchase. You can always go in later and change things that haven’t been bought yet.
And relax!!! We have the minhag not to prepare before the birth, and we don’t even take the car seat out of storage in adavance, and B”H we managed fine. There are very few things you NEED right away. There are a lot of online sites that will send you weekly updates as to what the baby is doing that week. I loved watching my baby change from an orange to a tissue box to a melon. . .you get the idea! If you plan on giving formula you can sign up with all the major formula companies and give them your due date. They send tons of coupons and free samples. There are also a buch of free baby magazines you can sign up for subscriptions (American Baby, Baby Talk), which are especially fun if you’re a first timer!
Bshaah Tova, feel good, and good luck!

Registering and all that stuff is not as important as learning as much as you can about breastfeeding. It’s a great gift you can give your child but you have to be prepared when the milk comes in… to know what exactly to expect… and other details I don’t feel comfortable mentioning in a public forum. Hint: When the baby nurses it may hurt at first unless you are prepared for it. there is a wonderful (the best!!) lactation specialist in Brooklyn (if you are in NYC) and you can ask me (I will post if moderator lets me) that helped me tremendously. People think that breastfeeding just comes automatically, but it doesn’t… I suffered a lot because I did not know what to expect and was not prepared.
April 7, 2011 2:38 pm at 2:38 pm #756872yogiboobooMemberhonolulu-bec im friends with those two people!

April 7, 2011 3:07 pm at 3:07 pm #756873bptParticipantDo yourself a huge favor. Take a lamaze class. It will prep you for what’s to come (delivery is nothing like it is in the movies)
April 7, 2011 3:55 pm at 3:55 pm #756874adorableParticipanti heard that those birthing coaches are really amazing…. i wouldn’t know but I dont see myself at that stage in life before you…. gotta first find the guy
April 7, 2011 6:02 pm at 6:02 pm #756875m in IsraelMemberIf you’re planning on nursing, I agree with yiddishemishpacha that you shouldn’t worry if things don’t go totally smoothly at first, and don’t give up too soon! A lactation specialist can really help if there are issues, and if you are going back to work as it seems from your questions regarding childcare, a good pump is definitely a very worthwhile investment. Also, as someone who nursed all my kids for over a year, I think it’s important to realize that nursing isn’t an “all or nothing” situation. If logistics force you to use formula occasionally that doesn’t mean you should give up on the nursing. For some nursing issues a speech-feeding therapist can also be very helpful.
April 7, 2011 8:57 pm at 8:57 pm #756876yogiboobooMemberthank you! im excited too! all i gotta do is daven that all should be OK! Now, heres the next question- did you find out what you were having or did you wait?
April 7, 2011 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #756877HAKOL TOVMemberyogi,

April 7, 2011 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #756878deiyezoogerMembernursing is a bonus. and it is indeed the best thing for the baby, don’t think and plan ahead about, you’ll see what happenes when the right time comes. take it easy. hang in there. good luck, in whatever you do.
April 7, 2011 10:43 pm at 10:43 pm #756879aries2756ParticipantThere are various thoughts on the subject, but I must say it is definitely more exciting if you don’t know the sex of the baby. But if you do decide to know, don’t tell anyone. There are things you are allowed to keep to yourself and just keep between yourself and your spouse.
As far as nursing and baby items are concerned. You have a lot of time on hour hands to put to good use and that is research. Now is a great time to read up on nursing and how better to prepare yourself so it will go smoothly. And what tips and tricks to use to make both yourself and your baby more at ease and comfortable. And that of course is great as far as gear is concerned. Find out which car seat fits the best in your car. Find out which is the easiest for YOU to carry. Many are way too cumbersome. Are you the type of person that loves the fashion of the thing or the convenience. Would you just like to have one stroller that will go from bassinet, car seat carrier and stroller even thought the frame might be a bit heavy or do you want to have a snap ‘n go and worry about a stroller later. Are you really the type that will do a lot of walking with the baby and need a cot attachment (bassinet)? Or will you be in and out of the car a lot and it really isn’t a necessity for you. Are you into the fancy and expensive or would you like a sleek look but are just interested that it wheels well and is easy to open and close and the price is right. Looks are not everything. Read reviews and know what your needs are. And by the time you need it the next model could come out and you can get a really good price on the one you choose, or you can go for the new bells and whistles on the new model and pay the extra price. Its like a new car. The manufacturer listens to the consumer’s complaints and suggestions and then gives them want they want. Hatzlocha.
April 7, 2011 11:51 pm at 11:51 pm #756880yogiboobooMemberaries-i want the snap n go. i dont need these fancy shmancy things. are ppl going to look at me any different? if someone offers to buy me something then ill look for something a little more upperclass but why do i need a bugaboo? to clunk around??? over pesach im going to go and check things out iy”H. i need something i can walk with, get in and out of car with and has a bottom lol. and also light weight!
April 7, 2011 11:51 pm at 11:51 pm #756881yogiboobooMemberas far as all the research goes—-its VERY overwhelming!!!!!
April 8, 2011 12:00 am at 12:00 am #756882agentParticipantYou should see the “laugh and learn about childbirth” DVD. I saw it and was afterwards told it is even better than taking the classes.
Hatzlocha!
April 8, 2011 1:25 am at 1:25 am #756883aries2756ParticipantI just checked out the snap ‘n go strollers with a friend of mine. Graco is different than some of the others because the car seat snaps in and the handlebar can be adjusted for a shorter or taller person. It also has a big basket. FYI, Babies “R” US also takes Bed Bath and Beyond coupons but not if they are expired.
April 8, 2011 1:46 am at 1:46 am #756884yogiboobooMemberoooo! good to know! thanks a million aries!
