April 16, 2013 10:54 pm at 10:54 pm #946020Torah613TorahParticipantDid you work in the summer? Were you part of a committee in high school? Do you do volunteer work? Does your family do volunteer work?
What kind of job are you looking for?
April 17, 2013 12:05 am at 12:05 am #946021sw33tMemberrelated coursework, relevant skills, volunteer work, community service (chessed) , if you are an emt/hatzalah, if you did army, if you won any academic contests, if you were in an honors program and/or graduated with honors..
April 17, 2013 12:17 am at 12:17 am #946022a maminParticipantKeep it short. Make sure to include your qualifications; for example computer skills, if you are looking for office work. Hatzlocha!!
April 17, 2013 1:16 am at 1:16 am #946023VogueMemberYou should find a resume writing work shop, and some sort of social services agency that helps people write resumes (a Jewish one), also, if possible, you should learn how to use quickbooks, the quickbooks online courses are two days long and cost $500, but once you know how to use quickbooks, a lot more jobs will be open to you, not just bookkeeping.
April 17, 2013 1:27 am at 1:27 am #946024VogueMemberIf you live in New York or New Jersey, you should look through the hamodia classified section, luach (but don’t post an ad asking for a job for safety reasons), and the Jewish Press, look for phrases such as “No Experience Necessary” and “Willing to Train” in order to make sure you are applying to jobs you can do. The OU job board is a good place to look as well. Craigs list might have some stuff. Also, there is a freelancing website called elance dot com, if you sign up, you can bid for many different types of jobs (I recommend their admin category, but beware of spam jobs, also bid low on that website because you will be competing against people from third world countries for jobs).

Just as important is making a good impression on the phone scheduling for the interview, and the interview itself. Don’t ask questions, answer what you are asked. Speak clearly and confidently. After they finished with their questions, then you could ask yours. Many employers complain about the seriousness of the young, entry level candidates.Working is not supposed to be fun, this is serious business, try to make a good impression.

April 17, 2013 5:13 am at 5:13 am #946029Ragachovers AssistantMemberYou could mention that you are regular columnist for Theyeshivaworld.com website.
April 17, 2013 3:02 pm at 3:02 pm #946030VogueMemberCamp counselor definitely counts, and is something you should add to your resume! See, you have job experience.
Also, I do think it is preferred to have someone help you. Before I wrote my first resume, I attended a resume writing workshop sponsored by Yeshiva University, and then after applying to several jobs, and not getting as many interviews as I would like and not getting a job offer soon enough, I went to a Jewish social services organization that is in the process of editing my resume to make it stronger and they helped me find a direction of what types of jobs I should be looking into, and if I feel that I need to practice my interviewing skills, I can arrange for a mock interview. I am sure many communities have these types of organizations.
