Is kollel life the ideal or is working and should kollel folks get community support?

Also, should Israeli bochrim be forced to serve in the army?

Why is there such a shidduch crisis?

    Is modern orthodoxy problematic?

Why do people use labels like yeshivish, how accurate are labels anyway?

Is it wrong to have a very expensive chasuna?

    cholov yisroel- whats the deal?

    1. Working is better, otherwise a man can’t fulfill his obligations.

    2. No

    3. Because the girls are being picky and not marrying men old enough to be their grandfathers or who they feel would not be a good match.

    4. Some is, some isn’t.

    5. Labels are as accurate as we make them. They exist to facilitate discrimination.

    6. If you can’t afford it.

    7. AYLOR (don’t bother him with those other questions, they’re a waste of his time)

Re: question #1 and title of the thread

The Gemara on Chagiga 5b says that HKB”H cries three tears: “over him who is able to occupy himself with [the study of] the Torah and does not; and over him who is unable to occupy himself with [the study of] the Torah and does; and over a leader who domineers over the community”

Each one is ideal for those who it is ideal for.

“Is kollel life the ideal or is working and should kollel folks get community support?”

The more time a person can spend learning Torah, the better. We should support Torah learners.

“Also, should Israeli bochrim be forced to serve in the army?”

    No.

“Why is there such a shidduch crisis?”

Because we aren’t following the advice in Pirkei Avos of Shemoneh Esrei L’Chuppah.

    “Is modern orthodoxy problematic?”

    Yes.

“Why do people use labels like yeshivish, how accurate are labels anyway?”

    Inaccurate and should be eliminated.

“Is it wrong to have a very expensive chasuna?”

    Usually.

    “cholov yisroel- whats the deal?”

A baal nefesh should not consume non-CY (i.e cholov stam).

    Kollel life is the ideal.

Also, should Israeli bochrim be forced to serve in the army?

No they shouldn’t, it would make them more liable to go off the derech.

Why is there such a shidduch crisis?

    a) age gap

    b) not enough good guys for the good girls

    c) so that bored people can have something to rant about.

    Is modern orthodoxy problematic?

Without a doubt, as their lines aren’t defined enough.

Why do people use labels like yeshivish, how accurate are labels anyway?

People use labels to seperate different categories of Jews, thus making it easier to discuss the various types. The labels are often misdefined. It takes finesse to label a category of people accurately.

Is it wrong to have a very expensive chasuna?

No, people should learn not be jealous of other people’s fancy weddings.

    cholov yisroel- whats the deal?

The deal is to only drink milk when the milking of the cow was watched by a frum Jew.

ooh this is fun! thanks Newbee!

“Is kollel life the ideal or is working”

working, bedieved there are heteirm to not work in spite of all the sources saying to work

” and should kollel folks get community support?”

    No

“Also, should Israeli bochrim be forced to serve in the army?”

    Same as other Israleis.

“Why is there such a shidduch crisis?”

Becasue just getting people to date is such an eisek with refusal to even consider a shiduch based on the dumbest of resons

    “Is modern orthodoxy problematic?”

    Aderaba!

“Why do people use labels like yeshivish,”

Becasue there are broad categories among Jews and there are differences between various groups that are well known.

    “how accurate are labels anyway?”

Generally fairly acurate. (Though beleive it or not depending on how wide your labels are I’m labeled yeshivish)

“Is it wrong to have a very expensive chasuna?”

Only if the money was obtained illegally

    “cholov yisroel- whats the deal?”

double scahr according to my Rebbe

Sure thing, I figured if I did not start a thread with these questions, people would have no way to discuss them otherwise and the rest of society will have no answers or advice about these topics.

Best to at least get a conversation started about them rather than leave them in the dark.

    1. Is kollel life the ideal or is working and should kollel folks get community support?

It depends on the person. Some are made to work, some are made to learn.

If the community can afford to support a Kollel, they have to. No one has a right to be Matil themselves on the Tzibbur just because they want to learn.

    2. Also, should Israeli bochrim be forced to serve in the army?

If they’re not learning, probably. If they are learning, let them learn. David and Yoav.

3.Why is there such a shidduch crisis?

    Who knows?

    4. Is modern orthodoxy problematic?

Not inherently. Many who take the title, though, do not do so honestly.

    5. Why do people use labels like yeshivish, how accurate are labels anyway?

So they can put other people down and/or put themselves up.

    6. Is it wrong to have a very expensive chasuna?

Probably not, but only if you can afford it.

    7. cholov yisroel- whats the deal?

I dunno. Large parts of the world chose a Din D’Rbannan with a Machlokes Achronim to make into one of the major issues of what makes one “Frum”. I have no idea why.

thats true. Though I’m kind of torn about zionism and was looking for some guidance

Im conflicted is it the geulah weve been waiting and davening for for almost 2000 years or is a plot between samech-mem hitler and amalek to finally end us once and for all.

I just cant decide without any guidance on this matter

Yea zionism also isn’t really spoken about. Honestly, I think people just aren’t that into it and find it a boring subject.

While its impossible to give you a yes or no answer, its 100% the second one and we are all doomed.

    Learning Boy Vs. Working Boy

    By: Sally Cohen

I want a boy who is LEARNING.

    ….Learning from his mistakes.

….Learning from the mistakes of others.

….Learning how to give without expecting anything in return.

….Learning how to forgive others for their shortcomings.

….Learning how to find true emes in a world brimming with sheker.

….Learning how to take no for an answer.

….Learning how to accept the will of Hashem when life gets stormy.

….Learning how to utilize the tools Hashem gave him to become a better eved Hashem.

….Learning how to find good in the frustrating nuances that happen throughout his day.

….Learning how to grow and become A BETTER HIM.

I want a boy who is WORKING.

    ….Working towards a greater goal.

….Working on his middos a little bit more each day.

….Working on strengthening his relationships with his rebbeim.

….Working on improving his relationships with his family and friends.

….Working on deepening his connection to Hakadosh Baruch Hu daily.

….Working on giving life all he’s got.

….Working on thanking Hashem for all the little things in life.

….Working on finding hashgachat Hashem in everything that happens to him throughout his day.

….Working to overcome his natural negative tendencies.

….Working on bringing Mashiach a little bit closer every day.

….Working on growing and becoming A BETTER HIM.

THIS is the person I want to marry. Just learning? Only working?! Forget that idea! I want BOTH. 🙂
