Help! We’re supposed to go away this shabbos to the Berkshires, but I’m worried it’s a mistake, given the weather. My husband insists it’s ok, but I’m concerned it may not be wise. My mother also called to express her concern about going away. Please give me advice and tell me what you think. I saw Govenor Christie declared a state of emergency and suggested evacuations in coastal areas of Jersey. Rabbonim in FarRockaway suggested buying supplies and leaving radios on during shabbos…..

You may be heading AWAY from danger. The only thing – if you are going, go fast and take everything you need with you. Prepare your home if there is anything you can do to prevent damage when you are away.

Where are you from? I’m blanking out on where the Berkshires are.

Many many people in Far Rock are evacuating. Many people in Far Rock live in a zone A area (which is the most dangerous supposedly) and are leaving because Bloomberg said there might be mandatory evacuations ON shabbos.

The Berkshires are not coastal and are on high ground. What’s the problem- were you thinking of the Hamptons?

As of last night the Berkshires were right on the projected path. You will get lots ofmwind and rain, depending on the exact. Path. You won,t get a storm surge or flooding.

So I decided to come up to the Berkshires after all. So far no rain, but we have our flashlights ready if the power goes out. We’ll see what tommorrow brings! Hope you all stay dry and thanks for writing!

best of luck. The track of the eye of the hurricane seems to be heading straight towards you.

If you are west of Springfield, there’ll be lots of rain.

What part of the Berkshires are you in?

The border of Massachusetts. You’re in Boston, right?? I think you’re much further north. I’m getting nervous that the eye of the hurricane is heading directly here. We’re supposed to leave tomorrow afternoon, but it may not be possible. The drive was very long (3 &1/2 hours) and on VERY curvy roads on a mountain! In a downpour, I think I’ll be shaking in my boots! We once visited California and drove on an elevated two lane highway with no barriers on the sides, that was elevated 2,000 feet! I literally laughed and cried the whole way from stress! I hope this will not be a repeat performance!

I just read that they’re expecting I-95 to be flooded much of the way. I think we took that highway. Something tells me we’re going to be stuck here.

    My highway????????

What’s the “my highway” in bold under my post. I didn’t write that.
