After Satmar, with about 250,000 Chasidim in the U.S., Eretz Yisroel, and Europe, who are the second (and third and fourth, etc.) largest Chassidus’?
April 5, 2012 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #867544dash™ParticipantWhy? Are you looking for a Chassidus where you will have no personal connection to the Rebbe?

April 5, 2012 5:11 pm at 5:11 pm #867546zahavasdadParticipantEither Bobover or Lubavich
April 5, 2012 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #867547sheinMemberSatmar, Bobov, Ger, Vishnitz, Munkatch, Lubavitch, Breslov, Skvere.
April 5, 2012 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm #867548OneOfManyParticipantWould you like an object to go with your possessive noun?
April 5, 2012 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #867549apushatayidParticipantChasidei Tinokos Shenibu. The group is larger than the next 10 combined by a factor of at least 5 perhaps 10 and its members are probably found on every continent.
April 5, 2012 8:21 pm at 8:21 pm #867550Satmar does not have 250,000 chassidim. I have seen a figure of 100,000 mentioned – I think even that is a bit exaggerated, but closer to the truth than 250,000. I do think Satmar is the biggest, though.
I think shein is pretty close:
“Satmar, Bobov, Ger, Vishnitz, Munkatch, Lubavitch, Breslov, Skvere” in that order. However Klausenburg also fit in somewhere, I’m not exactly sure where (depends on also on whether you count them as 1 or as 2 groups I guess). Same goes for Vizhnitz.
Chabad should not be mentioned in one sentence with the rest of them, really – they are not chassidim, but a sect.
April 5, 2012 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #867551zahavasdadParticipantKlausenberg and Bobover are really the same group, they are both really from the Sanz Chassidic dynasty
The real name of them is
Sanz-Klausenberg
Sanz-Bobover
April 5, 2012 9:33 pm at 9:33 pm #867552sheinMemberI realized I missed Klausenberg almost as soon as I posted. They indeed belong smack in middle there.
I heard Satmar k’h had over 100,000 20+ years ago already. Now at least a dor later, with some 10+ children k’h per family, the numbers would be that much greater.

April 5, 2012 10:26 pm at 10:26 pm #867554shmoelMemberBelz should also be on the top 10 list.
April 5, 2012 10:43 pm at 10:43 pm #867555zichmichMemberzahavasdad: I don’t know where you live, but it seems you’re slightly ignorant of the different Chassidic dynasties that exsist today. Just because Bobov and Klausenberg share ancestors does’nt mean that today, 100+ years ahead they are considered one chassidus. Most definitly not. Ask any Bobov or Klausenberg chossid. By your reasoning Skvere and Rachmistrivka should also be considered one chassidus. Also Boyan and Skvere shoud be considered one as they both come from Chernobyl – ridiculous.
shein: Ger is definitly larger chassidus than both Bobov’s [worldwide] Also Belz for sure is at least as large [if not larger] than all three vishnitz’s. Munkatch chassidus is not even on the map today. I doubt they have more than a hundred families of chassidim. Boyan, Stolin, Rachmistrivka etc, are much much bigger.
April 5, 2012 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm #867556Obviously Belz…. how could I have missed that… I was sure they were there, they’re one of the first I would think of.
April 5, 2012 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm #867557shmoelMemberzichmich: Ger is bigger than both Bobov’s combined?

Which Chasidus has no rebbes? Breslov and Lubavitch.

probably spinka, then, perhaps Boston.
“And, which one has the most Rebbes per capita?”
I’m not sure what your question is. Are you asking the same question as the OP?
April 15, 2012 6:12 pm at 6:12 pm #867570Most Rebbes? Nadvorna! (Including all of their offshoots.)
April 15, 2012 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #867571HaLeiViParticipantThe OP asked how many capita.
April 16, 2012 3:42 am at 3:42 am #867572cheftzeMemberHow big is Stolin?

April 16, 2012 12:17 pm at 12:17 pm #867574ZeesKiteParticipantcheftze: I think they’re like the Yidden; small but loudest. I think (maybe, could be) that’s why early ‘chasidim’ were called ‘???????’, their group was one of the first, the most outwardly fervent and loud.
