It’s a good school, flatbush student body, in BYBP building, good academic reputation.

A big feeder school (at leat in the past) is/was Bnos Yisroel. Don’t know what happens in the school, but they do have a website and have posted there pictures of the girls, which is a little concerning to me.

Since Bnoy Yaakov is only a high school it needs to attract girls from other schools i.e to feed them girls, hence the term feeder school.

Bnos Yisroel is a school in Flatbush run by Rebbitzen Groner (wife of the mashgiach of Chaim Berlin who passed away a few years ago). Bnos Yaakov was started by a former teacher at Bnos Yisroel. I beleive there are around 10-15 girls from this year’s 8th grade at Bnos Yisroel who will be going to Bnos Yaakov.

thank you for that info!! is bnos yisroel like bnos yaakov?

I met one of their teachers at a Project Inspire Shabbaton. She spoke there and was this adorable lady who i cannot imagine ever not liking. Wish she taught in my school! (Her kids are soooo cute too!) she teaches a class called Drachim, very hashkafa/life skills type of class but fun and interactive too.

Her motives are very sincere and genuine. She really teaches for the greater good of klal yisroel- she never used to be a teacher, ha a different job but realized te need so went into the field. Cute, approachable, inspiring, the whole package.

Thats just one teacher but if they had the good sense to hire her maybe the others are just as amazing!

I don’t know what bnos yaakov is like, but I believe bnos yaakov was built to be similar in image to bnos yisroel. I don’t know what the ultimate mix of girls ending up in bnos yaakov are. I will say this about bnos yisroel, there is no question on the application asking if you have a tv, if you have one bnos yisroel is just not the place you are going to send your daughter. That being said, the school is a mix of kollel families, Rabbeim families and fathers and mothers who work. It is not “advertised” as some other schools as for “yeshivish” and we don’t want others. It is for the commited frum family.

To the opening poster: If BY high school in Brookly teaches you that “anyways” is not an English word, it is step in the right direction. But I hear they have a strict rule against amphetamines and cocaine, which may be a problem for you, based on the unbounded enthusiasm of your posting.

mitzvahgirl, if you tell us a little more about why you want to switch schools and what you’re looking for in a school, there are probably posters who could help. (be careful to not reveal too much personal information)

I’ve heard some really good things about it, I think the girls really like it! A very cute group of girls there! They do have a lot of out of school rules though- like not having a phone, not going certain places on vacation, etc. But it sounds like an amazing school! Good luck!

nfgo3-dont worry about that i am just a very happy girl and the only thing i want is to be happy and i want other people to be happy as well! also my word of the week is fantastic(each week i have a different word :))

torah613torah- i dont like my school because it is very hard for me socially. im not saying that if i switch schools everything will be better but at least i can try and do my best to make it work for me. i feel that the most important thing to have in high school is friends and if i dont have that im missing a very important piece. also ive been with practically my whole grade basically since pre 1a and i want new people new faces to try to become friends with. so what im looking for in a school are people that are genuinely sweet, not cliquey(i know that can be hard but to find a school that has less of it as possible), people who dont talk about movies and tv shows all day(also that can be difficult but to have less of it) people who include everybody… ideas like that. these parts are very important for me.

    Thank you so much!

I don’t want to give any private info but I have a sibling that nearly became an OTD (Off the derech) because of being in a school with bad boys and he had one Rebbe who was a disaster. Take my advice, if you are in a bad environment RUN. That is one of the messages we learn in parshas Korach. Oy Lerasha Oy Leshcheino, woe to the evil one and woe to his neighbor.

If you are in a bad environment YOU WILL certainly be negatively influenced. You must do everything you can to switch schools. Do whatever it takes, speak to your Rav/Rebbetzin if think theres a chance they can help you, and anyone else who you think can be an ally. Take my word for it, I’m older and have been through all of this already. Environment is the most important thing. Its so easy to get pulled down by negative influences. You owe it to yourself and your future to switch out of there.

I know a girl from ny who switched to one of the schools in chicago at the beginning of her junior year because she was not happy with the schools in new york. She just graduated.

My sister is in Bnos Yaakov in 11th grade. She loves it. She’s a typical teenager. Not boy or movie obsessed but does watch movies and probably will sometimes talk about guys with her friends. But not in an unhealthy way.

Look, you’re going to get a group of those girls anywhere. And they are not good for your spiritual health. So just pick your friends wisely, anywhere you go.

I wish you the best of luck in picking the right high school. Bnos yaakov is an excellent school though.

I know people who boarded in people houses in chicago. The schools can arrange it. Just call them: There is Hanna Sacks Bais Yaakov, and Bais Yaakov High School of Chicago. Based on insider knowledge, hanna sacks might be better for you.

cinderella im fully aware that no school is perfect but because im in the environment that im in right now anything could happen in any school and i know that but i want to be in a school where theres LESS! i dont wanna be surrounded!!!!! so bnos yaakov is an amazing school and im aware of that and i would go but my friend whos in that school as well is convincing me not to and she knows me. also its the end of the year so i cant check out the classes and see what its really like forsure so if i wanted to check it out in feb-march that would have been the prime time to see what its like and to see if its for me!
