Let’s give “bad person” the same definition as “rasha”.

It is clearly true that bad people can make good art. Richard Wagner was the leading anti-Semite of his generation. D. W. Griffith made racist films and Leni Riefenstahl made propaganda films for Hitler. Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was a membr of the Nazi Party. Bertolt Brecht defected to East Germany. Picasso was a member of the French Communist Party and Pete Seeger was (for a while) a member of the Communist Party USA. I am sure that others can come up with other examples.

    Hitler, y’mach sh’mo, was a good artist.

Actually Hitler was NOT a good artist, he was rejected from the Austrian Art School, he art is only remembered because he drew it, not because of any artistic value

Art experts have stated that Hitler was a good artist. He was not an outstanding artist, but they say, he was a good artist.

Rav Moshe has a teshuva (Iggerot Moshe, Even HaEzer 1,96), which many think is about Shlomo Carlebach, in which he said that songs written by a mumar are like a machine invented by a mumar.

Are songs the same as machines?

Rav Moshe was asked if it is permissible to play his songs. He replied that being that his songs have no kedusha it would be the same as using a machine made by a mumar. I suspect that he specifically meant a car as he was from Russia and the Russian word for “car” is “machina”. In fact, Henry Ford ym”s enabled the average person to afford a car with his assembly line.

Henry Ford originally was far from an anti semite.

It was the WJC’s fight with him in 1920 that turned him that way

“It was the WJC’s fight with him in 1920 that turned him that way”

Wrong. He was publicly expressing anti-Semitic views at least as early as 1919.

Why would you defend such a rasha?

If one would actually read the Teshuva, one would see that it is not what Avi K says it says.

I went through the teshuva and “Machines” is only mentioned in passing along with medicine.

Nisht, the point is that he compared writing a song to inventing a machine.

Here is the passage that is relevant to this thread:

‘Why would you defend such a rasha?”

Considering what he published you’re correct.

    Be that as it may,

Henry Ford was in origin a real yankee (so straight ,as be crooked)

He still had some jewish neighbors, with whom he got along .One of them was an Rabbi.

Prior to the the WJC fight ,he used to send a free car annually

This american Rabbi always blamed the WJC for ford’s change.

    #1158487

Probably,Ford’s diislike of Holywood,The ‘red Scare’ and the Bolshevik revolution were all elements too

Time, wrong. He was a Michigan(d)er. I doubt if he had Jewish neighbors as at that time there were restrictive covenants that barred selling to Jews. He would certailny have lived i such a neighborhood as he even thought that there were too many Jews in baseball.

    #1158489

    Avi K,

Before you comment ,read his biographies

He was of yankee stock and personality

Virtually all the bad stuff that he published was in 20s and 30s

Although in 1922, he wrote a something interesting regarding a distinguished jew that he met on a ship

I’m told by some that my photography is good.

I’ll let you judge for yourself whether or not that answers the OP’s question.

If it has any do with the guy.

Example: person a is as u call a “bad” person made an art i would say that it is only treif if the picture says something about the person.

How can you tell if it says something about the person?
