If a neighbor is away on vacation and for some reason hasn’t arranged for someone to shovel, that doesn’t mean the sidewalk should be left a mess. It takes only a few minutes to shovel at least a basic path, its not that hard. Ignoring it creates unnecessary hazards for everyone walking through the neighborhood.
You know how many house ive passed by and struugled to walk through the snow ,because the owner and the people who live on the block dont care. This shows a lack of consideration for others who rely on clear walkways.
In addition, everyone is expected to clear the crosswalks on their block. The piles of snow left by Mamdani’s plows makes crossing very difficult. Waiting for someone else to do it is not acceptable. If you live on a block with alot of snow by the crosswalk help out a bit, it takes 5 minutes.
And for those who dug a narrow path please make it wider, People should not be forced into deep snow when passing one another.
If everyone does their part, travel would be safer and easier for everyone. This is a shared responsibility.
And i don’t think we can rely on the sun melting the snow any time soon, so please help out by your street, Thank you.January 31, 2026 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #2506081Little FroggieParticipantI guess people can shovel. Here, here’s my shovel and ice pick. Are you a people? Wanna do my house? The other side of the street? And the next street too? OOPS! I forgot the avenue.. both sides…

Now that Shabbat is over you should drive over to all those crosswalks and clear the path so you have an easier time next Shabbat!

And anyone who does so has the right to charge top dollar for their work and the homeowner has to pay for it
Just because you’re away and didnt do your part in hiring someone doesn’t make you absolved from paying for it

Nobody would think to bring a shovel and create a path for the tzibbur – unless the government sends a crew. “Nobody in the history of the world washed a rental car” (Lawrence Summers).
R Huna would go around town and check the walls – falling walls were a major danger at the time. If the owner had money, he would make them fix the walls. If the owner could not – R Huna would pay for the repairs. Same thing with snow – if the owner is neglecting it, then tzibus should ask him nicely, maybe stop giving him aliyot. If the owner is out, is elderly, why not send some bochrim to clean it.
