I accidentally purchased ices without a hechsher several years ago from a non-Jewish company. I contacted them on the off chance they had a hechsher because I did not want to throw my money away and heard their product was better than most. They emailed me back saying the OU said they were kosher but they would have an OU Dairy on the box because of dairy machinery. They said (back in 2009) that they hopped to have the OU on their boxes by 2010. I am not sure why they still do not have it (they maintain they are perfectly kosher and are finalizing the process with OU). Do you think it is ok to trust them that the OU said they were kosher even though there is no hechsher on the box? The ingredients on the box are kosher as far as I can tell.
March 11, 2013 9:56 pm at 9:56 pm #936148sharpMemberSeveral years ago? How much is an ices? I would just chuck it.
March 11, 2013 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm #936149sharpMemberDo you still have the ices? 😛
March 11, 2013 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm #936150thegraMemberwell i want to know if I can buy a new one from the grocery store.
March 11, 2013 10:09 pm at 10:09 pm #936151sharpMemberDid the OU put their symbols on the packages since then?
March 11, 2013 10:15 pm at 10:15 pm #936152sharpMember“A new one from the grocery store?” Why, where else? What are your other options?
March 11, 2013 10:20 pm at 10:20 pm #936153thegraMemberNope
March 11, 2013 11:19 pm at 11:19 pm #936154ChanieEParticipantAsk the OU. 212-613-8241
March 12, 2013 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #936155thegraMemberSo I called the OU and they said the company has dropped out of the certification process for unknown reasons. You think I can trust them and eat it or just go somewhere else? What if I see a family member eating it? Should I rebuke them or not tell them?

If there was a likely chance that the company was putting poison in their food would you believe them if they told you that they don’t? Kashrus is not a joke and not a game. It doesnt look like you take it too seriously.

March 12, 2013 10:40 pm at 10:40 pm #936160shnitzyMemberI would not trust them. They don’t have complete knowledge of kashrus and when ou says something like that, it would be wise to listen.

Nice, right out of the gemarah.
March 12, 2013 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #936163🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantProblem is I have a different analogy… would you even try eating it if there was a chance that there is some dishsoap mixed in? Anyone who ever tasted dishsoap by mistake would say no.
March 13, 2013 12:22 am at 12:22 am #9361642qwertyParticipantHow good can these ices be? You just want them because they are forbidden to you.
March 13, 2013 12:32 am at 12:32 am #936165shnitzyMemberExcept my two year old. He loves dishsoap.

Stop going into my head and just answer the question.

Yes I think you consider Kashrus a game. Now what?
And that’s why it looks like you don’t want a knowledgeable response.

Now nothing. I don’t know why you would think that and am sorry you feel that way. It’s not about the ice cream. It’s about the halacha.
Does anyone know the halacha if there is a chezkas kashrus for non-Jews claiming somehting is 100% kosher in this setting? I already have my answer but am curious to know what others think.
March 13, 2013 2:50 am at 2:50 am #936169sharpMemberNo. They do not have chezkas kashrus. This can be dragged out and explained in a long long post. I’m not doing it.
You said you already have the answer so it’s not necessary.
March 13, 2013 2:51 am at 2:51 am #936170sharpMemberIces or ice cream?
March 13, 2013 3:32 am at 3:32 am #936171thegraMemberI don’t want to give you anymore information sharp because maybe you are only trying to get me to give you the name so you can go buy them for yourself even though they have questionable kashrus.
March 13, 2013 3:59 am at 3:59 am #936172shnitzyMemberSheesh. I hate stupid burns. They’re just stupid. Stupid. stupid.
Break it up both of you.
