why is my post before the OP now????

    #613962

In real life I don’t go on and on about music coz I dont want my friends to get sick of me 😉 here if you dont wanna read about music you just dont click on those threads 🙂 But yeah I know what you mean, I think my style in the CR is pretty similar to my style IRL

    #1036762

I was just thinking about how no matter what, we can’t drop our personalities just cuz we’re anonymous. Here in the CR, some people just assume the leader roles, some the follower; all insecurities peek through; the nurturers are here, those who are logical, those who wax lyrical, even the bullies (even after being moderated) and the bullied.

and if it woulnt be anonymous? wouldnt it be the same?

    #1036764

No. Sometimes it would be, but I’m sure there are people here who in real life wouldn’t dare speak up, but here their opinions are just as important as anyone else’s; or they could say something unconventional or that would look bad in their community/family-so they don’t have to be afraid.

Just curious, really curious, extremely curious, Ms. ???? ??????, I’m wondering how you’d rate me. Leader / follower / insecure / nurturer / logical / lyrical / bully. Feel free to choose more than one. Or make new categories. Or maybe I don’t fit into ANY category.

And that post, too! The “-1 years” glitch strikes again.

    eftachbchinor:

Why would being anonymous allow us to “drop our personalities?”

On the contrary, as your second post says, our personalities may well come out most when we’re anonymous, and it’s in real life that we may suppress our personalities! So why does “real life” deserve that name anyway? 🙂

Actually, online, someone can choose to project a certain identity if they want to, just for fun, in a way which might not be quite as feasible in real life. Just saying. 🙂

“Actually, online, someone can choose to project a certain identity if they want to, just for fun, in a way which might not be quite as feasible in real life. Just saying. :)”

That’s what I’m talking about. Even with trying to project a certain image, inevitably something real about them gets out (if they’re here long enough). Not that I sit and analyze everyone, ahem, LF… 😉

LF: My little amphibian friend, your name is from the greek word “amphi-bios”, meaning “double life”. So if there’s any meaning to names…

I wish I knew all of you IRL!!! Youre all so sweet!! Little Froggie, Randomex, SayIDidIt, eftachbchinor, letakein girl, oomis and everybody else!! I cant poss write out everyone and also I have not been here all that long so dont know everybody too well, but you’re all amazing! I’m sure that while you might be different IRL, you all possess the qualities that come through so clearly in the CR (eg. eftach is a really deep, spiritual person, randomex is really really helpful etc. etc. dont mean to leave anybody out but feel bad for the mods 🙂 ) so yes eftach I agree, even though I most probably dont know any of you outside the CR, I still think youre probably the same :)!

    ? ? Pam-pah-dah-dam! Captain Obvious!? ?

“Little Froggie” does not come from “amphi-bios.”

If you know your CR history, though… 🙂

    randomex is really really helpful

Or maybe just likes to show off knowledge.

I don’t want to cause machlokes, but it seems to me that the ribono shel olam bentched everyone with their own personality and their own ma’alos–and everyone, I mean everyone, is special the way they are–and it doesn’t seem like anyone would change that, even “for fun”.

And sometimes people feel if only they would have been created differently, if only they would be smarter, or funnier, or anything, then it would be much bettter. But the truth is that hashem knows what’s best for us, and he’s there looking out for us, always.

There was one specific poster here a few months ago who claimed she didn’t have effective communication skills IRL and here she was one of the most expressive people. She claimed that online there is less formality and unspoken rules so she is uninhibited in expressing herself.

    Streekgeek:

That’s quite understandable. For people who are socially

awkward, online forums can be a great way to interact

(though I don’t think it helps their real-life skills improve).

Thanks streekgeek, Randomex, now I know my diagnosis “socially

awkward”. True, true, in real life I’m scared of my shadow, I would never THINK of making noise, speaking out etc. Here, as I once stated I run amok recklessly, (randomly) spewing whatever my brains are worth.

    #1036777

Now now, my dear Froggie. I’m sure your brains are worth a lot more than the credit you give them, and I for one find randomness quite appealing.

    Dunno how true this is.

I was just told by someone that in real life I’m someone completely different from the person I am on the phone…if so, on the net I REALLY must be different!

Little Froggie – I wasn’t talking about you there…though I can ask you the same question I asked her. Which is the person you really are? The one who you are here, or who you claim to be IRL? And don’t you find it confusing to live with so many sides to yourself? It gets a little complex, no?

“Which is the person you really are? The one who you are here, or who you claim to be IRL?”

i think that the cr person is your more ‘pure’ self, due to that it the cr, theres no social context, and no preset ideas based on other things (e.g. appearance, voice, age, etc,.)

Me? I’m really a person deep down. I try to gladden, brighten up, lift up, make people happy in real life. To get people to smile, be upbeat (me included), cheerful, zestful. When in real life, I can only do it in a one to one basis (you forgot – I’m scared of my own shaddow), here it makes NO DIFFERENCE. I can make myself here a total fool, no one (ahem) knows who I am.

    Same personality – different settings.
