I should’ve saved my laugh for this comment … as opposed to the thread title.

May 29, 2011 1:36 pm at 1:36 pm #772908gregaaronMemberHey, cars at risk is a serious issue that we are facing nowadays. Back in Europe, you almost never heard about our grandparents’ cars going off, but now…
But I feel that they just need to be steered in the right direction, and everything will turn out okay. Don’t ignore the warning signs! Rabbi Mechanic has a great program that will answer all of your car’s questions.
May 29, 2011 1:44 pm at 1:44 pm #772909ShrekParticipantif a car goes off the derech you should show it unconditional love and it will no doubt return.

I don’t think anyone’s taking the tragedy of someone c”v stopping to be shomer Torah umitzvos lightly.
But I see your point.

Or maybe aries doesn’t think jokes about car accidents are funny.

I apologize to you and anyone else if it disturbed/hurt their sensibilities. I didn’t think it would. Sorry.

Don’t you mean when bochurim come home from a date after having too much beer?
May 29, 2011 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #772918Ken ZaynMemberBoruch H my car is very frum and stays firmly on the derech (for sure when I’m around, hopefully when its with other people also!) and is even shomer negiah as it wont touch other cars. What hiddurim does your car have? Like veohavto lerayacar komoicar, kabeid es oveecar v’es imecar etc etc
May 29, 2011 5:47 pm at 5:47 pm #772919phillybubbyParticipantMy car is Shomer Shabbos (and Yom Tov) so unfortunately it doesn’t go to shul on those days! (Is that considered going off the derech?)
May 29, 2011 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm #772920aries2756ParticipantZeeskite, I feel it was in poor taste, especially when there is a thread concerning OTD kids running.
And PBA, I see your point, are jokes about car accidents funny? There was a truck on the highway in Israel that plowed into…….
Or remember the one about the teen driving who swerved and killed………….
Or what about the truck who didn’t see the little kid……
Or maybe the car that jumped the curb near a bus stop and……
Or the van in Monsey who went in reverse instead of Drive and backed into Mrs……….
Hmmm, I fail to see the humor in it.
May 29, 2011 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #772921smileyface136MemberI don’t think anyone means to make fun of accidents. I think they are just trying to make a play on words.
May 29, 2011 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #772922smileyface136MemberAnd my car stays on the derech for the most part simply because it has a GPS….. surely SOMEONE here can come up with a GOOD use for the letters GPS here. I, unfortunately, am stumped.
May 29, 2011 6:13 pm at 6:13 pm #772923always hereParticipantsmileyface136~ I agree 100%, just an innocent play on words

“G-D’S Protection System” .. definitely in East Jerusalem or the likes!!
May 29, 2011 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #772926aries2756ParticipantAs I said “this” particular play on words is inappropriate and not amusing. Maybe you can consider changing the title of the thread and then have fun with your car stories. Such as “Cars that go on their own derech” or “Cars that have a mind of their own”.
May 29, 2011 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #772927popa_bar_abbaParticipantMaybe you can consider changing the title of the thread and then have fun with your car stories.
But this terminology really fits much better to cars than to kids.
So probably we should just stop calling people who stop observing the torah “going off the derech”.

Again I do apologize. You’re right (understatement). Could you give me something I could start? (Humorous, that is)
May 29, 2011 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm #772929always hereParticipantZeeskite~ as I’ve said before, I have 2 sons that were OTD, but are back now B’H. I find this thread title & most of the subsequent posts amusing.

please get real!!! Mishenichnas Adar Marbim Besimcha!!! it is just a fun homourous thread, if you didnt get around to eating breakfast, so sit down and eat now and you will see the humor.
yes, one can make light even of the serious things in life, life is too tough as it is not to make a joke once in a while.
Zeeskeit
please stop apologizing, you are a zeeskeit and i find this very funny, there is no reason to apologize, if someone finds it offensive, there are plenty of other threads to read.
and i, well i dont have a car, but i do have a motorbike and i pray that he stays on the right derech all the time.
May 29, 2011 10:45 pm at 10:45 pm #772935aries2756ParticipantZeeskeit, thanks, I know you were not making fun of the kids. But anyone dealing with the kids and the real issues would not find it amusing. It is such a hurtful issue and it is not going to get any better after the pronouncements at the mental health conference.
May 29, 2011 11:08 pm at 11:08 pm #772936ZeesKiteParticipantaries2756:
I didn’t and don’t know of such a conference.
I generally feel bad for the world at large on the days Mommy lets me roam free. Today was one! Just coincidence.
(I’m not in your caliber, but maybe loosening up and smiling just a drop would help, you, them, everyone. ???? ?????? ?????, a bright face, a good word… <respectfully bowing out>)
May 29, 2011 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #772937aries2756ParticipantBut you don’t know me, I do smile. I smile a lot, and I laugh and tell jokes, just not offensive ones.

we’re not laughing at their tzarus. we’re laughing with them.

May 31, 2011 3:06 pm at 3:06 pm #772946BSDMemberHow about threads that go off the derech?
May 31, 2011 3:20 pm at 3:20 pm #772947msseekerMemberAny Jewish kid going OTD is OUR tzarah, not just “theirs”. We cry with them and for them, and we laugh with them at the tzarah, not at them.
