AHHHHH My phone just fell into a full tub of water & it’s not working (im not surprised). Anyone has of advice on how i can get it to start working ASAP? it’s not just a phone it’s a palm & it has very important info. & contacts etc. . .!August 24, 2009 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #655826
Try keeping it in a container full of rice for three days. Works like wonders. I know for a fact that it works on blackberry’s.August 24, 2009 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm #655827
Take phone apart – take out battery. wipe dry what you can. Leave open and let parts dry out completely. If you are lucky it will work againAugust 24, 2009 6:29 pm at 6:29 pm #655828
Always make sure you backup phone/palm regularly to avoid unecessary agro.August 24, 2009 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm #655829
First TURN IT OFF RIGHT AWAY AND KEEP IT OFF!!!
I can’t stress that enough.
Here’s what I did.
Take the whole thing apart (you may need a special tool called a Torx Driver, for that you’ll need to go to your local Home Depot). After each piece is removed wrap it in a napkin or paper towel. There will be some places where you won’t be able to reach with a napkin or paper towel, for those hard to reach places I used a hair drier to evaporate the water. Do not hold the components in your hand while you do this, place it on a hard surface and wait until the piece cools off before picking it up. Skin will burn much sooner than water will evaporate.
This worked for me, I hope it works for you too.August 24, 2009 6:36 pm at 6:36 pm #655830
Calm down, it happens! Just follow these directions and you’ll be okay!
Take the battery out and let it dry off for at least 12 hours.
Keep battery area on the phone open as well for 12 hours.
Don’t put in a dry battery in earlier to try it out, you will harm the phone.
Good luck!August 24, 2009 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm #655831
thanks for all the tips! MEPAL why in rice, is it supposed to adsorb the water? & DR.PEPPER i’m not going to be that brave & take it apart but maybe i’ll try blow drying it.August 24, 2009 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #655832
Debby, take out the battery and put the battery and phone separately into rice for three days.
*WARNING* Does not work for all phones. Two people I know had the same phone, one it worked for and did not work for the other.August 24, 2009 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #655833
I just discovered it may only work for blackberry’s. Sorry.August 25, 2009 2:25 am at 2:25 am #655834
I wouldn’t advise blow drying it without taking it apart.
I once heard a piece of advice from someone after witnessing him take apart an expensive electronic item and making some modifications;
“Don’t ever let yourself be intimidated!”August 25, 2009 2:29 am at 2:29 am #655835
I’m pretty sure it will explode if you try blow drying it without taking apart. You may as well put it through a curling iron.August 25, 2009 5:46 am at 5:46 am #655836
so what happened to the cell phone? is it working?August 25, 2009 2:28 pm at 2:28 pm #655837
As of today morning it was not working, i’ll give it a few more days & i hope by then it will have techias hamesim. (i transfered my service to an old phone so i’m sort of surviving)August 25, 2009 10:25 pm at 10:25 pm #655839
I hope it works soon!August 26, 2009 3:34 am at 3:34 am #655840

Does anyone know the sevara (understanding) of how rice out of all things gets it to work after being in water?August 27, 2009 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #655849
Go ask your Rabbi. Or maybe your Rosh. Or the mashgiach. They could probably help you with your question.August 27, 2009 7:46 pm at 7:46 pm #655850
I’m sure we could get a much more interesting conversation by hypothesizing that it has to do with Ashkenazim avoiding rice on Pesach due to its water-absorbing qualities.August 27, 2009 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #655851
Thanks Rabbi Ames.August 27, 2009 8:14 pm at 8:14 pm #655852
