Ok – so i received this email from a frum person. (i’ve gotten others like it before). it tells me to pass it along to 12 people. what would you do if you got this? maybe some of you already have? my instinct is to just delete it. after all, if we want to daven to Hashem – just daven to Hashem. why send these kind of emails or texts?

    here it is:

“whom am I to break it…

    SHLUCHOT

You’re one of my 12…Shluchot — A mystical Jewish formula for good mazel and who of us can’t use that!?

Please do not break! Just 27 words.

    G’mar Chatima Tova!

G-D our Father, walk through my house & take away all my worries &

illness & please watch over & heal my family & other families

    too…Amen.

    This prayer is so powerful.

    Pass this to 12 people

A blessing is coming to you of a new job, a house, marriage, good

    health, or financial comfort

Do not break or ask questions.”

Email back and tell the person you don’t participate in chain mail. Then it is up to them to choose a replacement.

aries – i see what ur saying but i wouldn’t want to do that. it might be offensive. i like this person very much. anyway she already did her part or “job” so to speak, by forwarding it to 12 ppl. it doesn’t matter whether we pass it along or not.

basically i just wanted to hear other ppl’s opinions about this. is it considered avoda zara? or in any way inappropriate halachicly? i mean especially when it indicates if you pass it along, good luck will come your way- are they saying if you don’t then c”v bad luck will come? we don’t believe in this stuff. why are frum ppl involved in this?

    any opinions from the cr?

I received the same email. I receive a large number of chain emails and most of them are meaningless trash. I used to forward them (not to the exact number of people specified, just to my regular “forward” list. Most of them also want you to return them to the sender. Finally, I had enough. I will often return it to the sender with a note saying that I no longer participate in this sort of email. Sometimes I don’t even bother doing that. A lot of them are stories that turn out to be bubba meises anyway. I have started checking some of them on snopes and they usually incorrect. I will then notify the original sender that they have sent out incorrect information. I am tired of them. Between the chain mail and the spam, my mail box is always full. I have a spam filter but some things manage to get through – usually an offer to cut me in on a multi-million dollar deal from a bank in Nigeria. I think life was so much simpler (albeit slower) when we didn’t have email.

First of all, your “friend” committed the first offense by forwarding it to you. Second, it’s not exactly avoda zara, but may fall under the category of lo senachashu (I think).

Do NOT EVER pass on chain emails! All they do is clutter up everyone’s inbox, nobody wants them.

    “Pass this to 12 people

    health, or financial comfort

It’s missing the part where if you don’t pass it on you will get eaten by a dog while being run over by a truck and struck by lightning at the same time. 🙁

You have two choices ignore it and keep getting more, or reply and put a stop to it. I have chosen to reply and put a stop to it.

I’ve **consistently** replied not to send me anything unless it has passed the Snopes test.

I was tired of receiving all these “alarming” emails that were totally or mostly false, and I would respond with the corresponding Snopes link proving the fallacy.

Problem solved (at least, till now…)
