Here’s an easy way to give someone a good feeling – tell them that you appreciated or enjoyed their post, or that you see their point! As Reb Simcha Bunim Cohen says, “it doesn’t cost any money.”
The thing is, this will bump the thread, but will not add to the discussion or collection. Should this not be done for that reason? Let’s talk about that. If you’re adding content anyway, though, you can definitely show some acknowledgment too.
(As a rule, if it’s older than 6 months, let alone a year, there is virtually no circumstance that justifies bumping a thread. I’m not talking about that.)
October 6, 2014 12:32 am at 12:32 am #1067192☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNice idea for a thread.
October 6, 2014 12:53 am at 12:53 am #1067193ivoryParticipantOn that note… Please nobody responds to threads from 2 years ago etc
October 6, 2014 1:02 am at 1:02 am #1067194RandomexMemberThank you! (Looks like it’s helping already, eh?)
I forgot – a good reason to bump an old thread is that it is a humorous/interesting collection. Newer readers may not have seen it,
and if you add content, so much the better. Basically, that type of thread cannot grow old, only die temporarily. But see my next thread!
And regarding Popa, see my next next thread! [An edit, of course.]

October 6, 2014 1:49 am at 1:49 am #1067200Letakein GirlParticipantKudos to cozimjewish for bumping the jewish music thread. I just spent over an hour listening to amazing songs that I would t have know we’re in existance without reading that thread.
Kudos to Randomex for starting this lovely thread.
October 6, 2014 2:07 am at 2:07 am #1067201cozimjewishMemberThank-you lg:) always a plez to help out fellow music lovers;) Actually, I don’t remember who it was, but thanx to whoever posted the link – I love that thread!
Sorry to annoy you, ivory

October 6, 2014 12:00 pm at 12:00 pm #1067204ED IT ORParticipantOP; this thread is such a special idea, you must be a real caring person to come up with such a genius and grand idea.
October 6, 2014 12:05 pm at 12:05 pm #1067205cozimjewishMemberOh thanx SIDI 🙂
October 6, 2014 12:17 pm at 12:17 pm #1067206jewishfeminist02MemberWhat’s wrong with bumping old threads? Why not restart an interesting discussion that died for whatever reason? So many new threads get created on a regular basis that older ones tend to just get lost in the shuffle.
October 6, 2014 1:07 pm at 1:07 pm #1067207cozimjewishMemberjewishfeminist has my vote for mayor of the coffeeroom!
October 6, 2014 3:28 pm at 3:28 pm #1067208RandomexMemberThank you, Crazybrit. 🙂

1. How old is old?
2. Why not just start a new one, and link to an older one if people want to read the opinions of the community that came before them?
October 6, 2014 3:36 pm at 3:36 pm #1067209ivoryParticipantKids do a chesed and shorten crazybrits st please!
October 6, 2014 3:50 pm at 3:50 pm #1067210jewishfeminist02MemberWhat difference does it make how old it is? And I’ll turn your second question around and ask why on earth start a new thread if a relevant older thread already exists? Mods occasionally block new threads if they’re too similar to existing ones. I personally can’t stand the clutter and disorganization of multiple threads discussing the same topic, and if I’m looking for information I really don’t want to have to go jumping from thread to thread, or raise a question in one thread only to find out it’s already been answered elsewhere.
October 6, 2014 4:10 pm at 4:10 pm #1067211eftachbchinorMemberMy brother once told me a nice vort (don’t know from whom). In ashrei we say “lhodia lbnei haodom gvurosov”. Pshat is that it’s referring to Hashem. But another way of translating gvurosov= HIS greatness, ie pointing out to a person his own greatness and making him feel good about himself. I liked that one!
October 6, 2014 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm #1067212SayIDidIt™ParticipantI totally agree with jewishfeminist02 on this. And so does the YW Editor! And this whole idea of not bumping old threads goes directly against the Rules of the CR!:

I also don’t think it’s right that one or two posters try to make up there own rules and demand others follow them.
March 30, 2015 3:20 am at 3:20 am #1067213☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantBump.
(Note: I have revised my stance on old thread bumping.
That doesn’t include doing it for no reason whatsoever, though.)
March 30, 2015 3:45 am at 3:45 am #1067214SayIDidIt™ParticipantSo what was your reason for bumping this one?
SiDi™
March 30, 2015 3:57 am at 3:57 am #1067215☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantBumping is generally either to continue a discussion or
to show threads to newer readers. In this case, it’s the latter.
March 30, 2015 4:14 am at 4:14 am #1067216catch yourselfParticipantOh, I thought you just wanted to keep it safe from your own restriction on bumping threads “older than 6 months.”
As a relatively new kid on the block, I don’t mind the bumps on the road.
March 30, 2015 5:05 am at 5:05 am #1067217SayIDidIt™Participantcy, I like the way you said that!
