This coffee room serves cold coffee, not freshly brewed.
How can a group of people have a coherent conversation with a 3 day time lag?
I can post a comment on Thursday & see it the following Tuesday. Is the coffee room a side show here?
I encourage the moderators to serve hot coffee that 100% kosher, meaning no evil gossip, nothing that causes pain to another Yid.

people used to write letters to each other that travelled for months. YWN is trying to upgrade us to the times of the Gaonim.

I’ll tell you one thing; better a three day lag due to the limitations of the moderators, than a completely uncensored forum where everything is immediately posted.

    I must concur with UJM/Joseph

Being a moderator or Administrator of an online group is a time consuming unpaid thankless job.

Much better to have delays, appropriate excisions or decisions not to publish than be bombarded by Schmitz and lashing horah.

W all owe an expression of Hakoras HaTov to the moderators of the Coffee Room

As for coffee, I‘Ll drinki it piping hot, ice cold or having sat in the mug in my desk for hours. I just won’t drink instant.
So it’s yea for me on Shabbos…..

It begs the question why moderators are unpaid. In my honest opinion comments should be immediately posted with registered users having a report button that would alert moderators to possible issues that could bring penalties for both commenters and when warranted abusive reporters. Ivelt has an amazing system that has worked for years.

pekak: A system like that can easily be abused by creating on-demand throwaway/burner logins just to post shmutz.

    #2446754

you can also use chatgpt to flag inappropriate posts

The Yiddish language forum ivelt has a system that has been working for years. There is no shmutz because people actually follow the rules. If Yeshiva World has users that would post shmutz they need to do some self reflection.

How about posting immediately for those that have already earned the trust of the moderators?

Dr. Pepper: Are you volunteering to code the forum to make that work? 😀

pekak: There’s much much less people who speak Yiddish who would post shmutz than there are such people who speak English.

None2.0: Jews are obligated to censor themselves. And to censor others who fail to censor themselves.

At least if you’re an Orthodox Torah-observant Jew.

    Dr Pepper,

There were numerous posts of mine that weren’t approved of in the past due to the way I worded it

I wouldn’t be surprised if other regulars were the same

You’ve obviously never tried Monster Java’s “Mean Bean” or “Salted Caramel” iced coffees.

Mods – you can design a couple of chatgpt prompts and send all messages to flag suspicious ones that require reviews. Also, give examples of what you consider good or bad.

    Something like:
I am a moderator of a Jewish orthodox forum. Flag messages that use vile language, ad hominems, question validity of belief in Hashem or Orthodox halakha, use disrespectful words towards respected orthodox rabbis. Respond with 1 for flagged messages and 0 otherwise. No other information.
Examples of messages to flag: … Examples of messages not to flag: …

A good thing here that chatgpt will figure out on it’s own who is due respect without your personal bias 🙂

coffee > There were numerous posts of mine that weren’t approved of in the past due to the way I worded it

same here. In many cases, I was thankful to mods for stopping us from inappropriate expressions. At the same time, mods used to be way more biased towards some rabbis who got to be always right, and others who were allowed to have faults. I don’t think there was any factual basis in that, just personal trepidation in some cases that somehow was absent in others. Either mods got iyush or, more likely, took the posts (including the ones they banned) to heart and seemingly became more reasonable allowing fair criticism across the board, while mostly avoiding bad faith attacks
