Hello,
My wife is extremely sick ?”? and I have not been able to work for the past three years and as a result we are in terrible debt and about to be evicted from our house.
I can possibly arrange for someone to look after my wife on Purim for a few hours so that I can go to collect some vitally needed tzedaka.
I have never been to Baltimore before and wouldn’t know which area is best to go to and would appreciate some guidance and advice.
Tizku Lemitzvos and a freilichen Purim.
March 4, 2015 10:31 pm at 10:31 pm #1063485TheGoqParticipantSo sorry for your tzuris, may your wife have a speedy refuah shleimah I am sorry but I am not that familiar with Baltimore is there a reason you do not want to collect in your own town?, Wishing you a freilichen Purim.
March 4, 2015 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #1063486LovelymeMemberI don’t really know Baltimore but I think near the bais yakkov
March 5, 2015 11:44 am at 11:44 am #1063487TheGoqParticipantElsewhere you do not think?
March 5, 2015 4:40 pm at 4:40 pm #1063488ovedhashemMemberThe Goq,
Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately due to my wife’s condition we had to move close to where she is being treated (about 60 miles from Baltimore) and there is no frum community here.
A freilichen purim!
March 5, 2015 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #1063490takahmamashParticipantI don’t understand. In another thread you said you want to go to Lakewood. In this thread, you say you want to go to Baltimore. Are you planning on driving back and forth? It’s not like they’re around the corner from each other!
March 5, 2015 10:01 pm at 10:01 pm #1063491ovedhashemMemberI was originally thinking of going to Lakewood but as i didn’t get any replies my next option was Baltimore as they are both about the same distance from where i am.
March 6, 2015 5:45 am at 5:45 am #1063492takahmamashParticipantIf you go to Baltimore, you need to see Rabbi Heinemann or one of his assistants at the Agudah to get a teuda. It’s a formal, laminated document that’s good for a specific amount of time. You won’t get much around the city if you don’t get one of these. Also be prepared to get tzedaka scrip, which you turn in at the Aguda to get actual money. When you get scrip, I think 10% goes to local schools.
B’hatzlacha!

Move to Boro Park near Maimonides Hospital and go on public assistance. You will get your rent paid and food stamps and Tomchei Shabbos and aides for your wife. In addition you and your wife can eat out for free at the Masbia restaurants every meal. Declare bankruptcy and erase your debts. If you still need to supplement your income, there are dozens of shuls and simcha halls where you can collect funds from generous Yiden.
And you won’t be alone as there are many who do this. Go to any grocery store in Boro Park and you will observe most purchases are done with a Benefits card.
Get hooked up to a shul with a Rav and shiurim and your set.
Let me know if you need more info, but do this immediately.
March 6, 2015 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #1063494TheGoqParticipantCherry I am assuming he is in the area because his wife is being treated at Johns Hopkins a world class facility and yes Brooklyn is a hotbed of chesid but there does exist chesid in many other parts of the velt.
March 7, 2015 7:52 pm at 7:52 pm #1063495takahmamashParticipantTo The Goq:
The OP stated:
Unfortunately due to my wife’s condition we had to move close to where she is being treated (about 60 miles from Baltimore) and there is no frum community here.
He doesn’t say if they’re living 60 miles from Baltimore or she’s being treated 60 miles from Baltimore, but either way, it doesn’t sound like Hopkins, which is in east Baltimore. If she’s being treated at Hopkins, they could easily live in Park Heights or Greenspring and commute.
March 8, 2015 3:15 am at 3:15 am #1063496TheGoqParticipantGood point tm, my main point was that chesed is available in many places not just Brooklyn.
March 10, 2015 1:53 am at 1:53 am #1063497cherrybimParticipantNew York City/State government is the largest source of funds for chesed obtained by Yiden in the world outside of Israel.
March 10, 2015 3:40 am at 3:40 am #1063499JosephParticipantNew York City/State government is in large part funded by Yidden.
March 10, 2015 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #1063500cherrybimParticipantNot the Yiden in Boro Park or Williamsburg.
March 11, 2015 11:29 am at 11:29 am #1063501BarryLS1ParticipantJoseph: Jews aren’t that large enough number to do that. Also, have you ever heard the term “Musaf?” I haven’t heard that in a long time, but it refers to how too many Jews live in certain sections of NY.
March 11, 2015 12:17 pm at 12:17 pm #1063502JosephParticipantBarry: Jews are on average much wealthier and thus pay more taxes than the average non-Jew. NYC has 1.5 million Jews out of a population of 8 million.
cherrybim: Kol Yisroel Areivim Zeh Lazeh.
March 11, 2015 2:41 pm at 2:41 pm #1063503cherrybimParticipantWealthier? Not based on the percentage of groceries paid by Benefits card in Williamsburg and Boro Park. Also, not according to Met Council numbers.
Pay more taxes? Don’t make me laugh.
