I am a student at a secular college. I finished my last final exam today. I have a weekend trip this weekend that I started planning around sukkos. Given the fact that I have been in school every week four days a week since the beginning of June with the exception of missing class for yamim tovim, I am not sure how to handle having five weeks off of school. I am not sure if I could even find a temporary nanny job.

Go snowboarding in Alaska? You could wait tables at the resort and use that to pay for your hostel stay and some tuna fish.

Learn Torah while snowboarding in Alaska. You can learn the halachos of simanei dagim and bishul aku”m, and how they apply to tuna fish.

I know a lot of students in that situation take classes over winter session so that they can graduate sooner. (I actually have one friend who took them because she wouldn’t know what to do with the 5 weeks otherwise)

sem613: I would take a college course but I feel like I really need the break and I also had a really hectic semester and took a three week intersession course between the regular summer school and the beginning of the school year.

I can say that I had a lot of fun on my weekend trip. I hope to have another one scheduled in a bit over a month (that was a surprise to me as well, same town). Given the fact that it is almost Christmas, my Mom has a bunch of time off of work over the next few weeks and my brother is on break from school as well (although I will be the last one to go back to school because I am in college and neither of them are). On one hand, I luckily am getting to chill a bit, but on the other hand, I also am able to catch up on important things as well. My weekend trip last weekend was like a spiritual spa trip for me and was a great opportunity to make new connections to amazing people.

What was the purpose of this comment?

Secular colleges have longer winter breaks. My break is over a month long. A Jewish college typically only gives one week or 10 days for break.
