I would keep give either a 1/10th or a 1/5th to Tzeddaka. Give some to my parents and the rest Id probably look for something to invest in.
Maybe they listen to the Dave Ramsey show or bought his books.
I’d pay the taxes, pay off our debts and give the rest away. It isn’t my money it is HaShem’s.

That’s absurd. Everything is Hashems but He doesn’t ask us to give everything away you aren’t supposed to give more than a 1/5th unless you are very wealthy but even then you shouldn’t give so much that you risk falling into financial ruin.

You say Gee-z. Which is short for Jezus which one shouldn’t say and Hashem which doesn’t require the dash because its not Hashems name or a name for Him in another language as opposed to G-d that you are makpid on?
Did you know that if you win a lottery in Canada you receive the entire amount? There is no payout over 20 years or take a lesser amount to receive it all in one lump sum. Also, the initial winning amount is TAX FREE!! Of course, the interest that you earn on it in the future is taxable. Now, that is the way to win a lottery – win a Canadian one. I try weekly but the most I have won in recent years is 20.00. I was happy to win that.

That is great if you are Canadian but if you are a US citizen a Canadian lottery win will be taxable in the US.

Charlie: You could always keep the money in a Canadian bank account. They are easily opened – don’t require residency or social security number. Just withdraw money when you need it. Of course, I imagine you would have to file a Canadian tax return on the interest earned. Not sure how that would work but I just had a thought – you could spend it in one fell swoop – then no tax problems or…..you could give it to me. In fact, if anyone wants Canadian lottery tickets – just mail me the money!!

But unless you had a Real Estate matter you needed me to take care of, I’m probably not going to be much of a help.
I just saw a picture of the winning couple on the Canadian news. They are quite elderly and said that they don’t need the money because they have each other. They divided quite a lot of the money equally amongst family members and the rest was divided amongst hospitals, churches, fire departments and some other unmentioned charities. They kept nothing for themselves. This couple are dead ringers for the couple in the famous American painting that I think is called American Gothic (the couple where the man is holding a pitchfork).

Sorry, didnt see that Q. Depends where I am, when I am in Brooklyn they are Jewish although I dont know *how* religious. When I am in the city they are mostly non-Jewish.

Oh ok. Does it bother you that you dont work with frum people? Do you prefer that you dont work with frum people?
I used to work in a place with non frum Jews and some non Jews and I didnt like the atmosphere. But I guess every place is different.

Doesnt bother me. They are respectful of Y”T and Shabbos and give me off without a problem, thats all I care about.

I hear you. I actually had a bit of a hard time with leaving early Friday. My boss was Jewish but not frum and he always tried to push me to stay later. It was very annoying to say the least.
