The problem our community faces is either cowardice or lack of achdus, or perhaps both.
When the blacks recently were infuriated by the police’s actions against their community, they protested BIG TIME. They rioted in Ferguson, they blocked off streets in Manhattan, they made the police afraid to leave the safety of their cars.
If, chas vishalom, the Jewish community would be provoked like that, the above scenario would not ensue. Not even close. A lawsuit might be filed, the Jewish media would include a special section, and that’s it. There would be no outright declaration en masse that we are being mistreated.
Think about it. When Pollard was jailed, what happened? A few picketing acts, law suits, political appeals…If that would have happened with a black, it would have taken less than a month to have him free. Pollard’s parole is unfairly harsh. Rubashkin is now in jail, in the biggest travesty of justice. What happens? The silence is deafening.
Because we don’t protest. Everything is done peacefully and lawfully–and that’s great. When it works. When Judge Reade refuses to mete out justice, it’s time to take justice into our own hands. But that isn’t happening. Why not? Cowardice. Or perhaps lack of achdus–if a chareidi organizes it, the modern won’t participate. If the MO endorse it, the roshei yeshivos will come out against it. And nothing happens until everyone decides to. People are too busy looking over their shoulder, afraid to be labeled as the inciter, the one who’s melodramatic, the one who fights with protests instead of davening.

November 29, 2015 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #1140011zogt_besserParticipantwhat Jews other than rubashkin need justice? also, there isn’t anything we could possibly do for rubashkin anyway other than a presidential pardon.

November 30, 2015 2:06 am at 2:06 am #1140013conservative1ParticipantBefore everyone flies off the handle, there are things going on behind the scene. If you want to help and do something positive, talk to R. Shulem’s oldest son. Make sure it is not jeopardizing anything currently underway behind the scene. To prove to you that what I am saying is real, find out who pulled off line his website. Where is everything on the net that used to be there about R. Shulem? It was pulled off the net with great effort by his family and representatives. If anyone really wants to do something publicly, please check first with his family in Brooklyn.
Religiously: “Kol Hamarbe, Harai Zeh Mishoobach!”
I am Not saying not to do. Just double check first. If you can’t find his family, then go to his butcher store on 14 Ave between 44 & 43 street.
I did not use his last name in order to avoid coming up on a Google search.
P.S.
I do something for him locally every week in B.P. Others do things for him in their Yeshivas. We are not all asleep at the helm.

Do you really think that the reason Jews don’t do
things like that is cowardice or a lack of achdus?
March 2, 2016 8:55 pm at 8:55 pm #1140016thebestofthebestMemberRioting is a reasonable way to demand justice. It’s obviously not the immediate tactic, but when all else fails, yes, go for rioting. The only reason it hasn’t happened is either cowardice or disunity.
In the R’ Shulem case, I now see conservtive1’s post that there might be a different reason. But in other cases, my assumption stands.

March 2, 2016 9:53 pm at 9:53 pm #1140018gavra_at_workParticipantI grant it is not in the official rules “do not break the law by posting”, but….
(1) to incite a riot; or
(2) to organize, promote, encourage, participate in, or carry on a riot; or
(3) to commit any act of violence in furtherance of a riot; or
(4) to aid or abet any person in inciting or participating in or carrying on a riot or committing any act of violence in furtherance of a riot;

Shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
Very simply put, you have put yourself at risk for a class A Misdemeanor. And you can’t erase the internet, and the Government (if need be) will find you.

March 3, 2016 2:16 pm at 2:16 pm #1140019BarryLS1ParticipantJews did protest in the past, i.e., for Soviet Jewry. Part of the problem is the conflicting facts that confuse people.
Blacks, on the other hand, have rioted before knowing any facts at all and it makes no difference when the truth finally comes out. Is that how we want to be?
March 3, 2016 7:39 pm at 7:39 pm #1140020thebestofthebestMemberWell, that’s pretty serious stuff that gavra_at_work quoted. Maybe this thread should be deleted, if that’s possible.
March 3, 2016 7:44 pm at 7:44 pm #1140021thebestofthebestMember(I guess I’m not immune to cowardice, either.)
