    I know there was a post recently about a boy who ordered a beer on a date. Aside from all the other possible issues involved which were mentioned there, does anyone know about the issur of women drinking with men, specifically single girls? Meaning, forget the guy for a second – would it be a) muttar b) appropriate, for a girl to get an alchoholic drink on a date? I’m asking for a more halachic discussion, but feelings of hashkafa are welcome, too.

    I just went through the whole thread. It addresses more whether or not it’s appropriate, but not really the potential halachic issues. I’ve heard that it may be assur for (married) women to drink in public without their husbands. Would this apply to a single girl on a date?

    IIRC it is a wine/grape juice issue and not an alchohol issue

    She definetly should not drink a significant amount. The Gemora in Kesubos says that wine affects women in a very bad way. I hope, no frum girl would drink a significant amount of alchohol.

    Would you give a girl a second chance if she orders a martini straight up on a date?

    Maybe ask the mashgiach from The Mir I’m sure you’ll do him proud. Maybe he’ll even recommend a good bar.

    @BSD:

    Considering that I am tired of going out with girls who think that Martini is an upscale clothing store on 13 Ave, yes, if I got a girl who ordered a martini I would give her a second date.

    Ive seen many weddings where they put bottles of Wine on the table.

    Also many weddings have a BAR and many charity diners serve wine on the table or have a bar

    They only put them on the men’s tables, not the women’s.

    When there is wine on womens tables its usually not “REAL” wine. Just a bartenura blue bottle… As we call it in my house, Wine Soda.
