I saw the other thread, I’d rather phrase it this way. What do the “Chevra” here think? Do you think the Barditchiver would exclaim “Look how good we are – We daven even when we’re so engrossed in our toys”?
I don’t know about you, to me it seems SOOO DISRESPECTFUL, towards a person, how much more towards Ribono Shel Olam!
July 10, 2011 3:28 pm at 3:28 pm #784198charliehallParticipantI have all the weekday tefilot on my Blackberry.

Are we to assume that your davening is perfect?
July 10, 2011 4:07 pm at 4:07 pm #784202Pac-ManMemberAnd if his davening is not perfect, is his point any
less valid?
July 10, 2011 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm #784203am yisrael chaiParticipantOne of the better gifts I’ve given myself is blocking texting from my cellphone.
July 10, 2011 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm #784204popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes. His point is completely invalid.
He makes as if he is surprised that anyone would not have perfect kavana knowing what he says. Yet, his own behavior should make him realize that it is not that simple.
July 10, 2011 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #784205walton157MemberUnless one is a doctor/EMS/Hatzalah or has a sick family member, there should be no texting, tweeting during davening. So disrespectful to your fellow congregants (men and women) and especially to Operator Himself.
BTW, our kavanah is between HaShem and ourselves. Let’s not judge anyone…..
Charliehall: Eyen Roeh. How would anyone know what is on your Blackberry? I would think that you are texting/tweeting during davening. Siddurim cost a lot of money that shule’s pay for. Use them.
July 10, 2011 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #784206PeerimsameachParticipantim one of those people who is addicted to their iphone… but during davening that phone is SHUT OFF!!it all shtemend from a vort i heard about distractions.if your cellphone being on doesnt let you tap into the tefillah ,and it distracts you from doing what really counts in this world than you have to limit its use.dont let your cell phone take over your life if it wont let you have 100% focus on what you are doing than you need to lessen it. – all in all its already hard to concetrate nd keep focus during davening without a cellphone…nd tefillah is such a vital part of our day. EVERYTHING DURING OUR DAY IS DEPENDENT ON THIS TEFILLAH.we have to try to put our all into it!!
July 10, 2011 4:25 pm at 4:25 pm #784207PeerimsameachParticipanti dont understand how anyone could even think of talking to another person during this important time! its defently not assur from a halachic point of veiw to text during davening….but while your praising nd thanking G- the creator of the world for having created you… i dont think texting is honorable…. im speaking to myself… no one has to read this or agree

popa- no ones davening is perfect but we have to keep what he said inmind. this is basic.

The comment was not helpful, it was guilt inducing.

You are right, just keep on texting, in fact why don’t you even text during Kaddish, and Kedusha and while davening shemoneh esrei, whatever your friend is texting you is obviously more important than talking to Hashem….
Popa there’s a fantastic Sefer called Olas Tomid by Rav Shmuel Hominer Zatzal. Learn that Sefer and your appreciation for Davening will greatly change.
Frankly, I think most of these types of questions that people ask come from a lack of understanding what Tefillah…is, as well as a lack of knowledge in the Halachos.
Once a person recognizes that he is standing in Hashems house and speaking directly to HIM he will realize how absurd it is to do anything that has nothing to do with Davening.
If you were unemployed and you got a job interview with an opportunity to make a lot of money if you get the job, would you pull out your phone and text in middle of the interview? Imagine, the interviewer asks you “why do you think you are qualified for the job?” Instead of answering him you just ignore him or even tell him wait a second, and pull out your phone and start texting.
Draw your own conclusion if you got the job…
July 10, 2011 5:18 pm at 5:18 pm #7842112qwertyParticipantis,
You can put your phone on “airplane mode” not to get calls during davening.

Sure there is. It’s called the off button. And it anyone says “But I have the davening on my Blackberry/Ipod/Whatever” I would say “We have something very low tech that will help. It’s called a Siddur.”
July 10, 2011 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #784213ItcheSrulikMembermamashtakah: Personally, I usually daven by heart with my eyes closed. I was asking Charlie out of curiosity because he keeps his siddur on his blackberry. Please don’t get self-righteous, it can easily become the opposite of the real thing.
July 10, 2011 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm #784214☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantItcheSrulik,
Yes, airplane mode, flight mode, or whatever a particular manufacturer calls it, shuts off all connection to the network while keeping the phone on. It’s also useful to preserve battery life when out of range. Many dumbphones ( I like that term) have this feature as well.
Charlie,
I will be dan l’kaf z’chus that you use the tefillos in your Blackberry when a siddur is unavailable. (Not that it’s a terrible aveira otherwise, I’m being a bit dramatic, but I agree to the posters who opined that it’s not as good as using a siddur, because of v’hiyisem n’kiyim.)
July 11, 2011 1:43 am at 1:43 am #784215amichaiParticipantdavening during texting. to me it sounds, first writting, then the ribbono shel olam. sorry but sounds really pathetic. only hatzola and or pple that need to be called in for emergencies should have there phone on buzz, which other pple do not hear. davening shachris takes 45 min approximately. you can’t shut the phone??
July 11, 2011 2:21 am at 2:21 am #784216ItcheSrulikMemberdaas: Good to know.

Isn’t that precisely what the Barditchever exclaimed when he saw the man fixing his wagon with oily hands, while wearing his Tefilin and davening —
Oy, RBS”O, look at your precious children, even while he is conducting his personal business fixing his wagon he can’t stop thinking about you and davening to you!!
