This is a rather ignorant question, I admit. Is Nachlas the new hit seminary of the year or has it been around a while but just now came into vogue as THE place to go?

Not only is that a ridiculous number, if you really think the numbers through (how many BY type high school girls apply to e”y”, how many seminaries there are in e”y”, you will realize that’s just a crazy number….. realistically, no sem gets more than 300 max max max apps a year,

btw, rebbetzin jacobovits is leaving nachlas at the end of this year, so i would expect changes. (also, it appears, mrs ulman is no longer at lahav, also big news)

trak, I would say a large percentage of girls apply. not in chassideshe circles but in litvishe, yeshivishe, heimeshe etc.. circles, a lot of girls want to go.

There are other animals that we keep in herds. Like cows.

And other animals that make their own herds. Like caribou.

Speaking of which, when I went to Alaska, I went backpacking in Gates of the Artic. I was hoping to see the 30k caribou herd, but didn’t. (That is the one that hangs out there. There is another that has like 130k, but it hangs out east of there.)

    commonsense,

if you add up all the 12th graders from all the by schools in north america (include toronto/montreal) you get no more than 2k-3k girls applying to e”y in total!. yes, many apply to multiple seminaries, but there are a lot of seminaries, figure approx 15 by type seminaries.

anyone applying to lahav or mezuraz, which are half year sems, are probably not applying to nachlas.

anyone applying to the sems that stress hashkafic growth OVER academic growth (all sems have both, everyone stresses something differently) i.e.: machon raaya, ateres, … are also not applying to nachlas.

anyone applying to less strict sems (darchei binah, peninim…) are not applying to nachlas

1500 applicants at $100 for a non refundable application fee…

    I think I might open a seminary.

my sis told me that 1200 people applied to bjj, i dont think nachlas is holding there.

    #852893

    Total Baloney.

I teach in three litvish :top” seminaries and I know how many apps they get. The most popular one gets 300-350 applications. BJJ get about that many.

NO one gets 400 or 500, and certainly not 1500.

In Nachlas’ case, it’s even more ridiculous to say this, because if anything, they are a seminary whose attractiveness is slipping. For most girls that do apply there, it is their 2nd or 3rd option if they don’t get into where they really want to go.

Their principal quitting/gtting fired is just the another chapter in a difficult two years they’ve been having. Their “name” is nowhere near that of Bnos Sarah, BJJ, Mesores Rochel, and even the new kid on the block, Binas.

Also, Trak, your info is a little mixed-up. You’re right that the principal of Lahav is no longer there, but it was Mrs Soloff, not Mrs Ullman.

Mrs Ullman only helped Lahav get off the ground at the beginning, but was never principal there. (She is principal in Binas Seminary.)

moishe pipck, i heard from one of the seminaries you mentioned as top that they had around 5oo pus applicants as it is now the new ‘hot’ seminary.

    #852897

Ok, I got the scoop today:

Nachlas had about 300 applicants, which is solid.

Mrs Jacobowitz accepted only about 85 girls, as she has a very specific view of who she wants in her school.

Usually that means that about 60% of those accepted will actually come to the sem, so they were looking at 50-60 students coming.

The owner, Mr. Bloom was very upset, as financially thats not enough students to make it worthwhile, plus Bloom (and Rubinovitch – Blooms sister) have been having many disagreements with Jacobowitz over the past 2 years.

So Bloom/Rubinovitch went behind Jacobowitz’ back and accepted another 100+ girls.

Jacobowitz flipped out, understandably I guess, and quit.

Then Nachlas shut off her phone and announced that she had quit because “she was tired and had a big family”.

Jacobowitz flipped again and went to the dorm to tell the girls that this was NOT the reason she had quit, and she told them the real reason.

Anyway, it’s “lebedik in der gassin”.

In any case, I’d be wary of going there this year for 3 reasons.

    1. It’s a huge mess right now.

    2. They accepted basically everyone who applied, so if you’re loking for the “Nachlas” experience with “Nachlas girls”, there’s no guarantee you’ll get it.

    3. Mrs J is not there, and she’s what made Nachlas.

Do you speak lashon hara and rechilus directly to the seminary students you teach too, or do you spread it only online?

i know some very good girls who did not get into Nachlas so I don’t think it’s true that they accepted everyone. theobvious said that 7 out of 24 from her school got in, that is not close to everybody.

Ok. First of all, Moishy Pipick, I don’t know where you got your information from, it is not true.

Second of all, EVEN if it was, it is pure loshon hara, rechilus, and motzei shem ra.

    What are your intentions?

To ruin an amazing school’s name?

To cause lots of people to lose their parnassa?

I have a lot to say on the matter.

Nachlas is one of the most amazing places out there. They are known to be extra warm, caring and concerning to all the girls, making them feel at home and loved. They have the most amazing staff which works day in day out with the girls helping them get the most out of their year in seminary.

I don’t know if you know Mrs. Rubinovich personally, but she is the nicest person out there with the biggest smile on her face – ALWAYS. Who are you to make up such rumors that c”v there is machlokes or fights going on? I hear first hand – from staff and people working in the office, that although it was a huge shock and very tough for her to hear that Rebbetzin Jacobovits was resigning just 1 day after the acceptance letters were sent out, Mrs. Rubinovich, nonetheless kept her calm demeanor and smile on her face.

Yes, Rebbetzin Jacobovits put tons of effort and her heart and soul, together with Mrs. Rubinovich to build up such a wonderful mossad. Being that I am a Nachlas graduate, it is very hard for me to see her go. However, I’m sure she has her reasons, and we will all miss her dearly.

Having that said, we are still sure that Nachlas will remain what Nachlas truly is. The staff is still there. The warmth is still there. And the same person who hired Rebbetzin Jacobovits, will Iy”h have a lot of siyate dishmaya in choosing yet another amazing figure to replace her. We are certain that with Mrs. Rubinovich’s full fledged bitachon, she will succeed in keeping Nachlas what it is.

    i ditto nbygrad!!!

dont get so worked up about this pipkin person he/she is probably someone involved in another seminary who took a hit since nby opened because of competition or something. sounds like they have something personal against them so it must be this because anyone involved in Nachlas or that actually went there only has the nicest things to say about them
