    What did babies eat in the desert? Did they nurse from their mothers and/or nursemaids? Or did they eat mana like everyone else?

    They nursed their babies. The Sifri states that the reason why the MANN did not taste like cucumbers, onions, and leeks is because nursing women are told not to eat those foods. See RASHI Bamidbar 11:5 _ EIS HAKISHUIM.
