The only thing that matters in the end is doing what G-d wants. This “charade” may be true (I think there is a quote from Twain regarding life being what you think other people think of you) but Hashem will give them Schar for going through the motions.
So my response is: So what? Would you like them to go off the Derech? Would you like them not to serve Hashem, even as an automaton? Granted it is better to think and understand, but it is worse not to do at all.
I don’t know if this is what you were expecting, but I “Truly TRULY” believe it to be true.
