October 20, 2013 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #981386Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantNo, i say
“How are you? How is ur day? Isnt it beautiful outside with the sun shining and the birds chirping and hey watz up? Whats new? Havent you heard that i feel absolutly fantabulocious today? How is your afternoon…”

October 20, 2013 2:19 pm at 2:19 pm #981387Little FroggieParticipantWhen someone starts a conversation to me with that, I sometimes retort “LIAR!”.
“Hu?!”
“You don’t care the least how I am, what can I do for you?”
October 20, 2013 2:51 pm at 2:51 pm #981388Bookworm120ParticipantI do and it ticks me off when people say “Hi, how are you” and keep going. It sounds insincere and, well, ignorant, because the person does not seem to understand the meaning of the words they just uttered. It almost sounds like they don’t even care.

October 20, 2013 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #981390sharpMemberYes, I always wait for the answer. If I ask it’s because I care and am serious about it.
I don’t however get insulted when people ask me and keep going. I kind of expect that because I know this question became quite routine and most people don’t think into it too much and that’s ok with me.

October 20, 2013 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #981392eclipseMemberIt reminds me of the joke ” I’m ADH-birdie!”
People need to give people at least a few seconds of genuine interest.

October 20, 2013 11:57 pm at 11:57 pm #981394writersoulParticipantI’m not the type who usually says “how are you” so if I do say it, it means I’m actually wondering… though I’m usually a bit more specific than that.
October 21, 2013 12:11 am at 12:11 am #981395live rightMember“how are you” functions as a conversation opening. you know there is an agenda coming that doesn’t involve how you are doing. but it makes sure that conversations don’t just start abruptly. that’s how we converse in America. politely fake 🙂
October 21, 2013 1:12 am at 1:12 am #981396SanityIsOverratedParticipantI usually say no matter the time of day, “Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night. Well that just covered your whole day. Enjoy!” Then I walk out, because I’m allergic to most kinds of social conversation.
