It seems like every time I go to Yeshiva World, to check the news, there is another depressing story of someone passing away or some tragic accident. I think it’s great that they post stories about people who are in need of our tefillos, but sometimes I feel like I’m browsing the obituaries in a newspaper. Lately it seems to be especially bad and I think of it as, “I’m going to YWN, to see who died today” and then I have to go to Onlysimchas so at least I’ll have some happy news. I’m not saying they should stop posting everything that’s sad, but maybe they’re a little too liberal in deciding which sad stories should be news? Whatcha say?

It’s the same as reading any other Chareidi newspaper. You scan the front of the Yated to find out who died.

I always scan the obituaries first. If I don’t see my name, I can go about the rest of my day…

Hashem said the world is Tov M’od!

We need to study the world and it’s ways.

We need to remember the world is but a fleeting time for preparation.

Then we can better see that it is Tov….Tov M’OD

There’s an old joke about a frum yid that was reading an Anti-Semetic newspaper. His friend asked, “Hershel, why are you reading that?!”

Hershel replied, “when I read the heimesher newspapers, all I read about is the housing crisis, job crisis, who died, ect. When I read this paper, its full of good news! Jews own the banks, control the real estate markets, have an inside track to the political machine, ect.

Wanna cheer up? Read lies. Reality is not always so rosy (at least YWN spares us the shmutz)

BP Totty: Like the story, but disagree with your point. Not all bad news is relevant or necessary to report. People who only read YWN may feel the world is a sad place, it’s not. That’s why I always go from YWN to Onlysimchas, leave on a happy note.

Any news even secular ones are full of depressing news. Maybe even worse, murders, stabbings, etc.

I do the same thing as boredstiff-I automatically type in theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom – don’t even glance at the main page.
