Last night was meet the teacher for my sons’ school. The teacher didn’t seem to have full control over the parents. One of the (3 or 4) fathers kind of tried to get order in the classroom. A question was raised about whether the boys had to bring the math book with them to and from school. One mother condescendingly remarked “…afraid your shaifaleh will hurt his back?” That attitude was uncalled for. I hope that’s not the attitude she uses on her kids.

September 15, 2011 2:02 pm at 2:02 pm #809908oomisParticipantYou’re right, that was uncalled-for. Some people are incredibly chutzpahdig. I hope this mother is reading about herself here, so she can see how she appeared to others.
September 15, 2011 2:15 pm at 2:15 pm #809909HaLeiViParticipantPeople say all kinds of things depending on how the argument struck them at first. Had someone started the conversation in a different way in a different setting, perhaps she would have espoused the opposite view.
September 15, 2011 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm #809910popa_bar_abbaParticipantI can just imagine how her husband probably talks to her, and about her, in public.
September 15, 2011 2:58 pm at 2:58 pm #809911metrodriverMemberMayan_Dvash; That mother who butted in when it was your turn to have a conversation with the teacher showed an extreme lack of respect. Respect for your privacy, and to top it off, that smart-alecky remark. In my position as a longtime bus driver, (35Years+, b”h.) I can tell you that the children in that family will definitely grow up to be Chutzpah’dig, showing no respect to teachers, bus drivers and others. It might come to a situation where the teachers at a PTA meeting will have to sit in cubicles, in order to preserve the privacy of each attending parent.

I think there is reason to suspect her husband. It is most likely that someone is picking on her, and that is why she is so insecure.
It is possible that it is one of her parents, and she picks on her husband as well.

A “no, I’m afraid Back-talk & chutzpa will hurt both my shaifalah and yours more.”
September 15, 2011 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm #809915minivanMemberThe comment from that mother was uncalled for! That is the reason you have children in the class who pick on,tease or beatup other children. They learn ALOT from their parents.Look at other elements out there, the 3 – 4 year olds are using foul language WHY?because that’s what they hear all the time in their house.

HUMOR is a lot of fun, but not at someone else’s expense.
Her comment was directed condescendingly at a particular individual.
Not classy.
September 15, 2011 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm #809918cinderellaParticipantwow that woman sounds a little bitter about something. The comment was definitely rude but we still have to be dan lkaf zchus. maybe theres something going on in her life that caused the outburst.

speak for yourself 😀
September 15, 2011 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #809922aries2756ParticipantUnless her son is “Big Gedaliah Goombah” she should also worry about her son as every parent has a right to worry about their son hurting their backs and every parent should be shocked at such a chutzpadik comment.
September 16, 2011 4:28 am at 4:28 am #809923HaLeiViParticipantDon’t take her opinion more seriously than she does. It was an outburst of the way the complaint sounded to her ears at that particular moment.

I’m amazed that people are bent out of shape with one woman’s sarcastic remark but have no issue with the rudeness of the parents who were giving the teacher a hard time and resisting his efforts to bring order to the meeting.
