Hi. I need a good recipe for donuts.
Any help?
December 22, 2008 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #628217YW Moderator-72Participantfrom the daughter of YW Moderator-72 (sugar free donuts)
1 ounce fresh yeast
1 1/2 cups luke warm water
1 tablespoon xylitol (sugar substitute)
___ Mix the above together___
in a separate bowl
4 cups of whole wheat (or whole spelt) flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup xylitol
pinch of salt
1/2 cup of oil (grapeseed)
___ Mix these together____
when the yeast starts to sizzle add the yeast mixture to the batter mixture
mix into a dough
let sit for 1-1/4 hours to rise
shape the donuts
let sit for 1/4 hour
place in preheated grapeseed oil on a low to medium flame – cook on both sides – the oil should be sufficient to cover half the donut.
after they cool, use a cake decorator and poke a tiny hole in the side of the donut. squeeze the all natural sugar free jelly into the donut.
serve with coffee.
NOTE: This is a new recipe for us and the batter is currently rising. I will let you know in a few hours how delicious they are. The full sugar regular flour recipe came out good or so I was told.
December 22, 2008 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm #628218ModernGuyParticipantThat is a great recipe for those of using following a low carb/low sugar diet, thanks!
December 22, 2008 5:28 pm at 5:28 pm #628219KeepinEntertainedMemberxylitol – is that like splenda? equal? any sugar subsitute?
December 22, 2008 6:14 pm at 6:14 pm #628220mazal77ParticipantA perfect topic. My mother just asked me last night If I could find her a receipe. My Hungarian grandma use to make us doughnuts on Chanukah, when I was little. She never wrote down her receipe. My Mother regrets that she never wrote the receipe from her. If anyone has a receipe for parve doughnuts NOT using parve creamer or soymilk. My grandma made it with just water, yeast, flour, sugar etc…
December 22, 2008 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm #628221YW Moderator-72Participantthe recipe above is parve. and my daughter just told me she so it in mishpocha jr. (credit to the source) with the regular flour and sugar.
December 22, 2008 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm #628222brooklyn19Participantwow you people are insane. ugh 8 days of oil sitting at the center of your stomach. disgusting!
December 22, 2008 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #628223mazal77ParticipantDidn’t see that you could use subsitutions for the Whole wheat flour and artificial sweetner. The way I see it,is if your going to fry them anyway, they aren’t healthy. May as well enjoy them the original way!!
December 22, 2008 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #628224mazal77ParticipantWe just make them once a year only and I only make them once throughout Chanukah. I personally do not fry during the year. So this is just a treat. Yummy delicous and made even more special because it is just for Chanukah.
December 22, 2008 6:30 pm at 6:30 pm #628225brooklyn19Participantmazal77
depends what you fry them in. try grape seed oil. or spectrum canola oil. they’re both much more healthy.
December 22, 2008 6:36 pm at 6:36 pm #628226mazal77ParticipantI only buy and use regular canola oil and Olive oil in all my cooking. I don’t use vegetable and corn oils. Most of the oil I do use in cooking goes into my Challahs. One cup for a 5 lb flour bag.
December 22, 2008 6:41 pm at 6:41 pm #628227brooklyn19Participantand you gotta change the oil every few minutes. not saying it’s less fattening, but it’s definitely more healthy.
December 22, 2008 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm #628228YW Moderator-72Participantmmm. I just had a donut from the recipe above. mmmm delicious. I fried most of them as above and will add the jelly later. on the last couple I added cinnamon to the the donut and to the oil. I had one of the cinnamon donuts and it was great!
December 22, 2008 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #628229mazal77ParticipantCan’t wait to give the receipe to my mom. She couldn’t write it down because she was busy cooking, so I read her the ingredients and she asked if there were eggs in it. She remembered my grandma also used eggs in her receipe. I wish I could taste from the batch you just made. Sounds yummy. 🙂
