I’m more worried that the United States military can’t take out a small boat with one strike.

Taking out a small boat is harder than taking out a big boat.

    To parrot ujm,

I take it you haven’t played battleship

All that is tongue in cheek because with today’s technology they can see it with a satellite and Target it with lasers and drones and they should have been able to destroy it in the first strike

I take it you haven’t played battleships (if that has anything to do with this).
small ships are harder to locate in battleships, but it real life not only are they hard to locate but even when located they are harder to target as they are more agile and reroute quicker faster. and more effectively. A larger boat, once hit will start to slow down, which makes it harder for it to manoeuvre, and definitely to reroute/change direction to avoid getting hit……

“ujm” is actually completely right on this one. Even with the best tech, it isn’t so easy to hit these zippy little boats that don’t have a big “footprint” on radar, satellite cameras, etc. The main new thing here is that every little glitch and mess-up is now broadcast to the whole world for every armchair general to judge. Same problem as the war in Gaza, or even the US in Afghanistan.

Give me a break. A trillion dollar budget can’t track and blow up a small zippy boat? Bubba maasos. Ukraine can shoot down zippy drones. Israel can shoot down intercontinental ballistic missiles. Stop defending an incompetent missile attack. They should not miss and should use the right weapon for the right job with sufficient payload.

Baltimore, small boats are harder to hit than missiles. Missiles mostly follow a trajectory according to laws of physics. and you also have million $ budget to hit them. The boat can maneuver and is subject to waves and wind and you are using simpler munitions to hit a boat. Also, in this case, US Navy is covering large areas so sensors and munitions might be at far distance. So, even if everything is done right, the boat movement while munition is flying is affecting results. Look at Iraq/Afghanistan time videos of shooting moving vehicles – a somewhat simpler problem as the aircraft is closer and the car is moving on the road.

BaltimoreMaven: I would be very surprised if the navy wasn’t treating this like an exercise and handicapping their operators to gain extra battlefield experience.
As a taxpayer, I would expect nothing less.

A war crime, plain and simple. Hegseth needs to be court-martialed for extradudicial murder.
