Gaming computers generally have more powerful processors and better graphics. Is there a catch?
March 13, 2017 11:59 pm at 11:59 pm #1227713Moshe1994ParticipantThat Depends on what you’re using it for, gaming or work?
March 14, 2017 12:00 am at 12:00 am #1227714👑RebYidd23ParticipantWork that requires a good processor and good graphics.
March 14, 2017 12:29 am at 12:29 am #1227715Moshe1994ParticipantThe downside is money, Prebuilt systems are generally overpriced with low price-performance. If you link me the computer you’re looking at, I could tell you if it’s worth it.
March 14, 2017 12:36 am at 12:36 am #1227716👑RebYidd23ParticipantI’m just browsing and the computers I see with the specs I want seem to be mostly gaming computers.
March 14, 2017 1:18 am at 1:18 am #1227718appdevParticipantGenerally they have gaming gpus. Depending on your workload this might be overkill (or you would be better suited with a workstation gpu).
What are you planning on using the computer for?
March 14, 2017 1:23 am at 1:23 am #1227719MammeleParticipantI know very little about this topic, but if the prices are low I’d wonder if there’s less hard drive space.

If you’re talking about a desktop system, then the main catch would be price. If you’re looking for a laptop, gaming laptops may have short battery life and get hot underneath during heavy usage, so check reviews carefully.
March 14, 2017 8:01 pm at 8:01 pm #1227722LightbriteParticipantDoes the high energy usage and heat that mean that generally some gaming computers are also louder?
March 14, 2017 8:17 pm at 8:17 pm #1227723DikDukDuckParticipantIf you’re doing 3D or graphics work a Gaming Computer with its powerful 3D graphics might work out. You may also consider a Business Laptop, those have powerful processors and sometimes workstation 3D graphics. Business Laptops also have superior build quality, better construction, durability, and designs than normal or gaming laptops.
If you’re just doing office or internet work you don’t need powerful 3D graphics and the basic stuff will be fine.

March 15, 2017 2:03 am at 2:03 am #1227725👑RebYidd23ParticipantI’m only thinking of possibly dabbling in graphics, but I am sure I don’t want a computer that incentivizes the taking of people’s fingers.
