For all those that don’t know, fountain soda is a mixture made from tap water and syrup. If you’re Makpid not to drink the tap water in NYC because of copepods than you should not be drinking fountain soda either only bottled soda.

February 19, 2020 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #1833343☕️coffee addictParticipantAddf,
There’s no filter in the soda machine?
February 19, 2020 10:18 pm at 10:18 pm #1833391JosephParticipantOnly get fountain soda from a restaurant that has a hechsher.
February 19, 2020 11:33 pm at 11:33 pm #1833410AddfParticipantWell if you purchase it in a place that is kosher I’m sure the Mashgiach made them filter the tap or at least I hope he would. But otherwise why would it have a filter

February 20, 2020 4:46 pm at 4:46 pm #1833672yitzykParticipantIn my experience, all soda fountains and coffee machines I have ever seen had filters on the water line. Not for kashrus reasons, but for quality control. They don’t want their product to taste bad just because of dirty water.

You don’t know if that filter your talking about is good enough to remove copepods. And Even if that’s true, how can you know that they all have a filter because the ones you saw had one?February 21, 2020 10:10 am at 10:10 am #1834081jdbParticipantAsk your local Rav or Vaad Hakashrus. I did this regarding some local 711s when this sugya came up almost 20 years ago, and they said told me that the local machines had sufficient filters.
It should be noted that not all rabbanim or hashgachos require filters. Speak with your Rav, and make your own decisions.
February 21, 2020 11:11 am at 11:11 am #1834099anonymous JewParticipantThis only applies when the water source is a reservoir. Water from underground aquifers don’t have a problem.
February 21, 2020 11:11 am at 11:11 am #1834100anonymous JewParticipantFlavorings can be purchased from several companies, not just Sodastream
February 21, 2020 11:11 am at 11:11 am #1834102JosephParticipantjdb: We don’t “make our own decisions”. We must follow our poseks ruling.
