    Benk- what exactly do u want ? what are the numbers ? do we need signs? did signs make anyone wear a mask? smoking , vaping, drinking these are all tayvos and hatzad hashave shebohen is shedarkan lehazik ushemirasan alechoh. previous doros had a nisoyon of haskalah today its raykonis .. its not about unresolved questions
    rebbes & ravs.. what should they say that we dont know already?, the koach of a leader is dependent on the bitul of the followers or talmidim. u will notice that in every shul .. yeshiva there are those fathers or bochurim that are real talmidim ” aseh lechoh rav” they ask shaaalos .. listen at shalosh seudos .. repeat at home what the rov said in shul & implement it & others in the same shul do differently.
    amudim is a topic on its own

    Ma Nishtana HaDor HaZeh Mikol HaDoros?

    Yeshivas have always had problems with smoking and drinking. Vaping is a new thing now that smoking isn’t as common anymore. I remember one Yeshiva I visited sometime in the mid-90s where outside the back door of the Beis Medrash was a massive pile of cigarette butts because of all the bachurim would stand their to take a smoke break during seder. One Yeshiva had a joke about Shavuos all the windows were lined with still lit cigarettes standing on their filters so they will go out on their own because you can’t stub on Yom Tov.

    And the Rebbeim spoke about it. A lot in many circumstances. One Rosh Yeshiva I knew used to say that he would never allow a shidduch where the boy smoked. It worked somewhat. Smoking is a little better now than it used to be.

    @BenK

    1) Why are you screaming at us? Take a chill pill.

    2) I smoked for 21 years. I switched to vaping 6 years ago because I couldn’t breathe. Vaping saves lives. Stop believing Big Tobacco and their lawyers.

    3) Furthermore, do you have any idea what Amudim is about, or do you just read some headlines and spew nonsense?

    Smoking reduces 14 years of life, on average.

    However, vaping is not in the same equation here. It is an alternative to smoking.

    According to the National Academies of Science:

    “Laboratory tests of e-cigarette ingredients, in vitro toxicological tests, and short-term human studies suggest that e-cigarettes are likely to be far less harmful than combustible tobacco cigarettes.”

    People think that nicotine causes cancer. Nicotine is addictive, but it’s the other chemicals in the smoke that kills. Without the cancerogenic cocktail in tobacco smoke, nicotine is not much different than caffeine.

    Yes, there can be some other contaminants in vapor, but for nationally known brands (eg, Juul), they are subject to regulation and litigation and must be very careful. And even for lesser known manufacturers, the existing research indicates that they are far less toxic than cigarettes.

    @zveidinim

    Smoking causes 14 years less life on average?

    Zvei questions:

    1. How many years does the median (not mean) smoker lose?
    2. The average is of what? The average smoker by volume? Or the average time prior to life expectancy “smokers” die? Define “smokers” please.
    That is all for now.
    Thank you.

    even if the only thing is kosher videos
    and as to your question what bochurim did before internet?
    Well, they smoked. In the beis hamedrash

    @BenK Might I suggest that you rent a private apartment for your son? Or homeschool him?

    *Sarcasm alert*

    Give us and all the yeshiva bochurim a break. It’s not the first time you’ve yelled at us about these issues. You aren’t going to change anything.

    well, in the yeshivos where i learnt they did smoke…

    #1931775

    Justwondering – what was Rosh Yeshiva’s halakhic position on that?
    I believe a heter to smoke expired long time ago when it became evident that sm
    oking hurts your health. I believe Rav Moshe in the 1960s allowed fools/innocents to rely on Hashem’s protection. By now, there are not many excuses for ignorance and many teshuvot against it.
