How is Israel’s relationship with the UAE working out these days? Until recently we had thousands and thousands of Israelis streaming into Dubai every week frolicking on vacations. Even moneyed American Jews were going there for Pesach getaways, junkets and supposed business deals. We heard all about Chabad opening shop, I recall someone started describing himself as the “Chief Rabbi” of the United Arab Emirates and, of course, Shloime Zionce was connecting with all his new Arab friends hanging out in all the luxurious venues Dubai has to offer.

Are things still going so swell? Do any Pesach hotels have openings in Dubai this year?

The real bottom line is a great many Arabs do not wish to become of a rebuilt Iranian (Persian) Empire. The Iranian launched the war for fear of an alliance of Arabs, Americans, and to a lesser extent, Israel, against Iran. The Iranian goal is to convince the Islamic world that the leaders of the Arab countries (none of whom were elected) are corrupt traitors, and that the Islamic world should accept Iranian leadership. Defeating Israel would go a great way to establish Iran as the dominant Islamic power, and humiliating the western Christian powers by closing the Red Sea/Suez definitely helps. The first Arab countries to fall would be the small states along the Persian Gulf (they are rich, and very undemocratic, and their leaders will have much to lose if Iran takes them over).

I think things were going a lot better in this regard when Trump was president, I’m sure the OP would agree.

UAE sovereign funds invested more money in Israeli technology companies through IPOS and late round venture funding in 2023 than the prior 3 years combined. I could care less about how many yidden spend their yom tovim on the beach in Dubai.

What kind of upbringing does it take to make a yid rejoice and gloat when things are going poorly for Klal Yisroel?

Missing a Pesach getaway in Abu Dhabi is so terrible? Greece and Cyprus are still open for business.

ujm: i have never been on a pesach program nor have i ever been to uae but can’t one see through his upbringing that if israel and arab countries get along it is good for klal yisroel? at some point does one not step aside and ask “where has this upbringing brought me?” at some point, when someone is actively rooting for things to go very poorly for jews, does that person not wonder whether it is pure, unadulterated gayva that prevents someone from recognizing that some of his earliest beliefs may have been wrong. that some of the people he loves and hold dearly may be wrong? many great people were wrong about important things. it does not make them less great.

Besalel: No one is rooting for things to go poorly. It is just noting where things are. The point being, it was very predictable to reach this state.
