Today I made myself a tuna sandwich with mayonaise.

But it tasted really different today. As I started munching, I started thinking maybe its not tuna. Maybe its not even a kosher fish I am eating. I mean, this stuff does come from far away, in the who-knows-where ocean with non jews working in this fishing industry.

In other words, when they fish, and by mistake pull up octapus or shark , whose mashgiach is standing on the boat or over seeing the processing that they ONLY take out the TUNA fish and dump the rest back?

I got scared but since the label said “King of the Sea” CRC I figured its ok. But thats probablly only because I was so hungry.

Has anyone ever had their doubts as to whether or not they were really eating tuna, when their taste buds screamed “shark”?

    Curious minds want to know.

    Thanks

You did not eat shark, Tuna nets do not catch Sharks.

The DO catch Dolphins as Dolphins swim with Tuna (Sharks do not)

and this was a problem, however somehow they have made the nets to catch the Tuna but not the Dolphins (Dolphins and Tuna’s are similar sizes)

Um, how would you know what shark tastes like to suspect it to be that?

I think sharks get to have the first bite…

zahavasdad, yeah, you got it! I meant Dolphin. Not shark. I forgot the fish I was referring to. Did I eat dophin today?

It was a strong taste like salmon. Is dolphin kosher?

Dolphins aren’t kosher. But I’m laughing now, if it tastes like salmon then why aren’t you thinking maybe it’s salmon??!!

scissors runner; LOL!!! I can’t believe it!

a few years ago I had a Tuna sandwich and it tasted off, and the same thing was going through my mind. That’s insane! I guess I’m not the only one wired that way. Did you lose your appetite too? If so you must be a long lost twin. Good luck eating hotdogs.

CRUNCH! (Is that a chickens nails or beak?) BLECH!

Could it be a different type of tuna that you don’t usually eat? There is the standard tuna, which is the dark meat, there’s white tuna and then there’s albacore. They all have distinctly different tastes. I don’t think that you would have had a chance of having 1 particular fish make up the can that you ate since all the meat from hundreds of fish is mixed together in the canning process.

This is precisely WHY we must have hashgacha on a can that would APPEAR to contain only TUNA (a kosher) fish.

The star K has a moshgiach checking every fish.

Dolphins are not fish nor are they Kosher.

i dont know about Kashrus issues, but dolphins are very sensitive to mercury ingestion.

when you feed tuna to your pet dolphin ALWAYS make sure the label says dolphin-safe

    #821517

..So maybe it was Mercury I was tasting in my Dolphin Sandwich?

Chances are unlikely this can happen, but I am certain that when the tuina comes to the kosher-under-hoashgocha plant for processing, they make sure it is tuna and not dolphin.

Very silm chance. Had they netted a shark, they would sell it as shark to some snooty uptown eatery, to be served with a cream of snob sauce, for $75 a plate, not can it for $1.29

BTW, I’m having lunch now, so can we please not talk about chicken beaks?

“Eating shark …by mistake…what are the chances?”

About as likely as grilling skunk meat, the next time you want a burger.

If these odds dont sit well with you, you can always buy a whole fish with the fins and scales intact and have your mother/wife prepare it for you you can be 100% certain.

If memory serves me, dolphins are not fish, they are mammals, not that it sounds any better if canned.

“whose mashgiach is standing on the boat or over seeing the processing that they ONLY take out the TUNA fish and dump the rest back?”

They don’t need to stand on the boat. They need to be at the processing plant and make sure that there are no octopi on the assembly line. Having said that, I believe that while the mashgiach has to be thorough, there is substantial leeway for chad bitrai batul which means that technically, you may have eaten dolphin (a great source of protein) or even Osama.

    #821526

BSD So about your comment that dolphin is a great source of protein, is that suppose to make me feel better about it ?

    LOL

I do crave protein lately as I have physical demands for it, but I prefer tofu.
