Do you use an egg on your קערה when the Seder is מוצאי שבת . There is a questionable mesorah and minhag to leave it off because there is no Chagiga this year. Secondly, are women obligated to have an egg at all? Is this zman grama or not? Thanks

yes. why do you say there is no chagiga this year? it can be brought during chol hamoed.

the possible reason to omit the egg is that someone will get confused that you should have Chagigah even after Shabbat. then, when next time you’ll go to Beit Hamikdash, you will confuse your korbanot.

There is no concern though as you will have Cohanim who will tell you what to do or not to do. Also, it seems that it will take some years to next Seder after shabbat, so if you are a person that confuse things easily, you’ll probably forget by that time! (1st explanation is from some source, 2nd is mine)

The egg is eaten as a remaz for Tisho Beov falling on the same day. The Chasam Sofer explains the relationship. If they would not have been taken out of mitzraim before the four hundred years, no charban would have occured. The Jews are like eggs where the more they are cooked, the harder they become.

It is a time of chagiga as Shevuos we say zman matan torasenu and not yom matan torasenu.

Make sure to roast the egg before Shabbos, or if roasted on Y”T, eat it on Y”T.

Is it not for the Chagigas Erev Pesach? Which would not be brought on erev pesch that falls on shabbos. And tashlumim is for the regular chagiga, not chagigas erev pesach.

What is Chagigas Erev Pesach? The chiyuv is for being in Jerusalem for yom tov and done as early as possible.

Thanks NDG for explaining that if the egg is the chagigah that is brought on Erev Pesach so that the Pesach should be eaten all hasova etc. Then it can not be brought this year. So why use an egg on the kayreh?

rebE- It’s a gemara and mifurash in halacha. Maybe the CS”S is talking about nice ramazim, but no, it’s not because of tisha b’av.

    Reb E,

I am guessing you haven’t been learning daf yomi.

As Beneepraom noted it’s a korbon that was brought so the pesach can been eaten “al hasova”

There is a machlokes of all the Halachos of the korbon pesach apply to it. But it is not docha shabbos as is the pesach itself.

Benephraim, it is a zecher. It’s not the korbon itself. Where do you find that you get rid of a zecher on shabbos.

There are two consideratiins here, an egg on the kaara is for chagigah mentioned in SA O’CH 473,4 and tbe MB s’k 22 there discusses the egg on motze sbabbos seder either we have one or twio tavshilin by not differentiating, lo palug. Eating eggs at the meal, is in the RMA in SA O’CH 477,2 because of Tisha Beov as a zecher, so women can also take part like everything else of tbe seder meal.

There is a cinnection between Pesach and Rosh Hashanah, teshuvah meahave, Pesach which is isaruse mileailo a wakeup from above, whereas Rosh Hashana, teshuva miyiroh whiich a isaruso miletato, wakeup from below. Rosh Hashanah we avoid eating nuts whereas Pesach it is a mitzva. Tbe remaz is the letters before שופר is קערה.

As the MB above says, we don’f differentiate and we always have tbe egg and chicken neck, on the seder plate. At ho lachma anya, remembering our exile that currently anyone can take part in the sudah without being counted on as explained by tbe Naasei Hashem, we remove them to realize that currently we don’t have tnem.

The sefer above is a priminent Haggadah called Maasei Hashem from tbe Rav of Crakow after the RMA.
