    Please remind me….

the chanukiah is supposed to be lit for longer tonight to last as long as the shabbos candles?

The Mitzva and obligation for the Menora is to last half hour into the night if not more. In order to fullfill this obligation on Friday night since the Shabbas comes in before night actually starts and we need to light Chanuka candles beforehand it is necessary to have them last longer, usually one and a half hours. Have a Chag sameiach

    sorry,

so now I have an additional question.

My kids light their own menorahs, and they light with regular candles. These last for only a short amount of time.

There’s no issue with their lighting these if they’re minors, right?

mommamia: Well, there is no real chinuch, I’m guessing, since they are yotzei min hadin with the family anyway.

But, if they are older, like 10+, I would say maybe consider giving them shabbos candles. (You can use a half shabbos candle, and just glue it down to the table, or to the menorah.

    Popa,

    Thanks for your reply…

I didn’t have a chance to read it before Shabbos, so they lit with regular candles.

    I appreciate the info…
