I don’t understand why we didn’t have a massive tehillim rally (either public with social distancing or via zoom) when it started to be reported that we were getting it again and schools were going to close, why do we only have tehillim rallies when something happens in Eretz Yisrael?

Do we really think Hashem won’t help us and only Tiachler et al will?

The gemara in Kesuvos says “הכל בידי שמים חוץ מצינים פחים ” – “Everything is from Shomayim except for cold sickness and heat sickness”. The מפורשים explain that it means that if you slept with a window open on a freezing night and wake up with pneumonia, the fault is on you.

Tehillim rallies are nice, but an ounce prevention combined with a pinch of סכל a dash of השתדלות would go a lot further to help our situation.

Great, now we are actually hearing someone so attached to their platform that instead of it being hishtadlus, it’s even better than davening to Hashem, r”l

You are not suppose be matriach Hashem, praying for, for simething you are able to do by yourself, see the Beis Elokim.

@Syag-Lchochma I am not the originator, only the messenger. I am simply quoting Chazal. If Chazal is the platform that I am “so attached to” then I will stand by it and so should you.

I agree with everyone here – yes for davening, yes for hishtadlus, and yes for being open-minded…
on one hand, davening is better than burning tires and starting protests….
On the other, to protect Yserbius from being accused of insensitivity, we can look at the idea of “sheretz b’yado” – can we daven while doing averos (not just passively not doing hishtadlus …)?

Presuming that a plague is a punishment and lesson for us – we should at least try to discern the lesson and learn from them. Some of the “lessons learned” I heard are usually simply an extension of the speaker’s agenda, adding Covid for better taste.

“Tehillim rallies are nice, but an ounce prevention combined with a pinch of סכל a dash of השתדלות would go a lot further to help our situation.“

You know people probably said that when Haman wanted to kill us too

“Mordechai should just bow to Haman, it’s not really Avodah Zara…..”

“If we just hide on the 14th of Adar we won’t be killed, why should we daven?”

We have Esther in the palace, she’ll save us”

    The list is endless

The gemara in taanis says they davened when there was a calamity “saw wolves” people didn’t say “they shouldn’t go to the forest” etc

Apparently so, since so many ehrliche yidden in these neighborhoods prefer to ignore the pleas of local rabbonim and askanim and prefer to stand out on the streets at midnight with this obnoxious “activist” and yell gevalt and naziiiii and start dumpster fires. So much more effective….

I do stand by chazal. But i don’t quote chazal, make extrapolations, and pretend they are still quotes from chazal.

To whom is this question being addressed to ?

    CA,
You have a great idea. Gantz klal yisroel believes in the koach hatefilah, especially in the zmanim of ratzon of Elul and Tishrei.

Did you go to a Gadol or organization to suggest this idea?

If you want something done , just do it.

These events are usually not started by the Gedolim but are the result of an Askan who works to plan, coordinate and implement the event.

    Interesting,

At the time of the Gemara it was started by the gedolim

But even still wouldn’t the askan ask the gadol what needs to be done first?

    #1907965

coffee, just contact whomever you consider a gadol, or ask your local Rav to consult whomever he consults. And then please report the answer here as this is the public matter. If you don’t receive the answer, you can post that also.

    Ok here it goes again

I asked my Rav and was told there were discussion last night about it and they decided it didn’t look good based on optics

So I told him we should do it in each shul and connected through zoom and he said they don’t want to do that so I said after the Shula are closed that’s what will happen anyways
