The phrase “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired” is far

older than that song, and that’s not quite the Metallica lyric.

The earth was freshly painted but the sky was feeling blue…

    — Avraham Fried – My Fellow Jew

I think I hadn’t noticed your earlier post.

    “Ohhhhhhh, things change

No use holding on because / Nothing stays the same”

(That’s actually more than half the lyrics, not counting repetition.)

“The thoughtless kindness of a coffee cup waiting by the door

So much to say, I forget to start / There goes the day, fading as it passes”

(The rest of the lyrics to this one aren’t as good in my opinion.)

    Lilmod Ulelamaid

Randomex – what song is that? Why is there a coffee cup waiting by the door? And why is that thoughtless?

Maybe a CR addict thinks he’s Eliyahu HaNavi?

    Jonathan Coulton’s “Glasses.”

By “thoughtless kindness,” I think he meant that the person

doesn’t think of themselves as having done the other person

a favor – they naturally do this for their spouse.

    Lilmod Ulelamaid

what? and why is it thoughtless?

(To be precise, I think he meant “kindness done without thinking.”

Had you seen my last post before now?)

    I want to know

Why every song I have ever sat down to write

Has started with the words “I want to know”

(I don’t think the rest of the lyrics are as good. I won’t tell you the

song this time, only that it’s by a little-known frum musician.)

“Had you seen my last post before now?”

no, sorry, I just saw it now. Probably wasn’t posted yet when I wrote my last post. I was responding to LB.

    okay, now I understand, thanks.

I thought it meant that someone thought they were doing something kind but because they didn’t really put enough thought into it, it wasn’t really so kind.

Like maybe leaving coffee outside the door instead of inviting the meshulach or worker or whoever it is into the house to eat like a mentch at the table. (although maybe they were concerned about a yichud or safety issue).

Anyhow, now I understand, thank you.

It’s hard to come up with lines for this thread when limiting myself to
lines I like the actual words of (not those I really like the delivery of),
from songs in which these are standout lines – I wouldn’t want to quote
only one line of a song that’s well-written all the way through.
