So finally I saw a sign from some thinking people that actually has what I would consider good advice.
Many people are still busy screaming about masks and social distancing as I see on this forum and elsewhere. Instead, others have real good advice. The (non-political) medical world knows much more about covid now then before. They have ideas of how to treat people, not to just throw everyone on a ventilator. So this sign was giving a list of numbers of organizations that have info on which hospitals are giving good treatment. Wow! That will save lives!
Screaming about masks? It’s not proven if they fully work or if they do at all. Forsure the cloth ones.
So this sign actually gave good advice.
Meanwhile the vast majority of cases are minor. So that’s good too. I’m saying, people go to the hospital from car accidents daily. Do we shut the roads because of that. NO. At a certain point one would think that since almost all the cases are minor and children’s cases are virtually all minor, only narrow minded people like Deblasio and Cuomo would shut down schools and essential businesses.

HIE: Great advice. As the President tweeted today, its survival of the fittest (like him). Just remain strong, don’t fear the virus and don’t allow it to ‘dominate your life”. I guess the 210,000 Americans who have died from the virus in the past 6 months, including thousands of young and middle aged individuals without compromised immune systems or other serious co-morbidities, simply succumbed to fear. As the Trumpkopf noted in an interview a few weeks ago when confronted with the number of deaths, “it is what it is” but then added “of course every death is a tragedy” when reminded by a friendly Fox news reporter how callous his comments sounded. I guess if you have a hospital suite with your name on it on standby, a helicopter to get your there in 5 minutes, a team of 10 doctors ready to attend to you 24×7 and access to therapeutic drugs no one else can yet obtain, maybe you don’t have as much to fear.

GH- you know you finally convinced me. After 3 years of nonsensical hatred i finally got this advice. You are so so right, we SHOULD be scared!

We should live in fear. We should spend our evenings calling old friends and making amends, rewriting our wills jotting notes for eilegies, expecting the worstand treating each moment as our last.

We should live in fear when the mail comes, spray it down and leave it to dry. We should be petrified to step out to buy food, maybe even fear the chessed volunteers who shop for us.

We should worry incessantly about our and our children’s safety, maybe calling them several times a day begging them not to leave their houses.

Only this over focus on death, danger, mortality and counting our minutes will keep us productive and safe, will maintain our sanity and health, and will assure us that we will survive this pandemic. Because hope and positive thinking is evil, insensitive and can only be good for your heart and mental health. But you have no business having such cares about hearts and minds during a pandemic.

Yes. Anxiety and despair! That’s the way to lead a nation to a recovery!

Syag, your sarcasm is appreciated. It does not mean that you live your life in fear but also don’t endanger yourself by getting into crowds like your president without proper mask wearing and social distancing. When he arrived back to the WH, he proudly removed his mask revealing his lack of concern for whom he will infect.

“ Screaming about masks? It’s not proven if they fully work or if they do at all. Forsure the cloth ones.”

Can someone please point me to a legitimate medical source that concludes that masks don’t work. This kind of misinformation is dangerous.

he isn’t responsible for 210000 deaths. He’s responsible for making sure it wasn’t 1,000,000 or more by closing the border for China. He is just being balanced and wearing a mask when neccessary but when outside in a nicely spaced area it isn’t necessary. He has a balance of caution and normalcy. Unlike Biden and the media. Life must be normal. Yes people did die. Everyone has to be careful. But also normal.

Syag: Sorry it took you 3 long years to internalize my “nonsensical hatred”.. I had thought you graduated in the upper half of the lower third of your cheder class but perhaps I was thinking about one of the others who share your irrational exuberance for the incumbent. However, just so there are no hard feelings, I’ll gladly share with you some of my research on basements in South Florida to hide out after January 20, 2020 since that is the only way to properly live in fear of the incoming administration. On a serious note, as Reb Eliezer so accurately noted, there is world of middle ground between the Trumpkopf’s strawman of hiding out in your basement and the kind of responsible and commons sense public health measure advocated by the President’s own public health advisors who he totally ignores and undermines at every opportunity.

with Biden president there would have been many more deaths. He called Trump Xnephobic. Meanwhile he’s the Znephobic one now. Trump is balanced. But the media picks at every second Trump doesn’t wear a mask. Masks became a religion. It is no longer a safety measure. It’s a religion.
People are judged completely by whether they wear a mask or not.

Unfortunately it’s leaked into our community to.
I heard a guy say that he no longer respects someone because he heard that he davened by a porch minyan. [this was said in April] People no longer are given the right to make responsible decisions.
Doctors are now putting out kol koreis!!
This is not normal. Only competent Rabbanim should be doing that. Yes, even regarding medical things. Doctors are only to inform Rabbanim of the facts, not sign kol koreis.
Doctors were only given permission to heal, not to lead the Jewish people.

ReElect Trump! No, he isn’t the biggest mentch. But he has balanced ideas and policies. He isn’t narrow minded. All Biden sees is to close country people are dying. We could close country but well have more suicide, more drug and alcohol related deaths.
For any thinking person, the riots that took place in the George floyd thing were all partially due to the lockdown. Yes, the lockdown that some say saved lives, was partially responsible for the riots. People were cooped up in their houses for months so they let it all out. Also many had no cash because of the lockdown…
Now I’m not saying the lockdown back then shouldn’t have been done. Could be that back then it was necessary. But all i’m saying is that everything has to considered.
    But Biden doesn’t see that.
So sad that people are fooled by Biden

The CDC said that only medical professionals need masks. Ordinary people do not benefit from a mask.

GH- I’m female, i didnt go to cheder.
But i am really internalizing your special measage. I am printing hundreds of “so what if suicide is on the rise, i don’t want to catch corona”

I am hoping to give some lectures on “tight focus on despair prevents loosening of germs”

“Wear masks at all cost so i can be happy, your mental health is just a side point”

I’m taking orders. And don’t worry, the flicker of hope is fading fast.

Fake news. The cdc website says:

“CDC recommends that you wear masks in public settings around people who don’t live in your household and when you can’t stay 6 feet away from others. Masks help stop the spread of COVID-19 to others.”

I think we need to measure how many people are affected by mental illness vs. how many people are affected by coronavirus. Like, locking everything down such as we did in April will lead to more mental difficulties. Opening everything up like it was 2019 will lead to C”V thousands of hospitalizations, permanent lung damage, and even deaths. We have to find ways to keep things open while keeping people from getting infected. That is why the CDC guidelines are so important. If a kid wants to play at his friends house, they can both wear masks, stand apart, and wash their hands. If you want shul to be open, you can have a parallel minyan in the parking lot, Purell stations, and mandatory masks. That way we don’t have to worry about the social problems nor the debilitating health problems COVID-19 brings.

@reform-rabbi I think you misunderstood something that was said. Back in April (feels like a millennium) the CDC asked people to stop buying N95 masks because medical professionals need it and weren’t able to get it. Less than a week later they said that everyone should be wearing masks as much as possible when around other people.

    1. Who are the non political medical community? Scientists of other countries? Countries whose politicians aren’t petty enough to politicise a pandemic? Because many of them (especially the likes of South Korea and Vietnam who are handling this so much better) all encourage mask wearing.

    2. Much like Trump champions the use of Hydroxyclorquinie, a “non proven” treatment, why not encourage the use of masks which, by the science we do have, have a good chance of slowing the spread of the virus?

    3. You refer to better advice then masks. What exactly is this advice??

    4. How is 210k deaths a good result?? It is far worse then any other country

@syag-lchochma I don’t appreciate the sarcasm. I thought we were having a good discussion before sorry that you had to get nasty. I’m sorry I wasn’t being clear before that the purpose of everything all the guidelines and personal responsibilities is so that we don’t have to shut down like we did in April. Masks and social distancing is important both because they allow us to continue with our regular lives without infecting people and putting them in the hospital and to allow sick and elderly people to be able to go out.

    I wasn’t being sarcastic, i meant it!
And a good discussion? ME nasty? Is it a good discussion when you belittle my friends depression and say she’s just afraid to get infection? Or belittle depression overall by saying masks should make people happy?

Or was the good discussion when you keep ignoring that i said masks are important and are NOT just to make others happy, and pretend i said something else? I’m all for a good discussion but it involves hearing what someone says and responding.

I also think you are killing more people by wanting the sick and elderly to go out than i am by advocating that two people with antibodies can visit each other. I would never advocate for something so risky and i don’t think anyone else here should either.

The only thing that will work right now is for everyone to stop taking covid test. They do not help anyone and they are getting our city shut down. If you are sick stay home and do not test

    Sure. That’s great thinking.
Why not just completely live in denial? Let COVID do its thing and whoever does dies?

The point of testing, as it apparently it isn’t obvious to you, is to ensure the individual (that either may have been exposed, or showing symptoms) to test and if positive continue to isolate in order to not spread the virus to others.

Statistics is not the primary purpose of testing.

How can antibodies be relied upon when
    A. We don’t know how long antibodies last for.
    B. It’s very likely Kawasaki disease in adults triggered by COVID is very possibly caused by anti-bodies.

How is not testing denial? If you suspect you have it stay home. That’s it. Nobody is denying the virus. The two Nazis, Debozo and Como, are liars and manipulators. They have no interest in public health. They want us to live in fear. Release exact stats on who contracted the virus, level of severity, all the details. Do you remember when the whole point of the lockdown was to flatten the curve? not to overwhelm the medical system? What happened to that? Are the hospitals filled to capacity with people on ventilators Chas vshalom? Is there a shortage of ventilators (there never was). Are people dropping dead in the street? Don’t you see what these reshaim are doing to us? Unbelievable how these anti-Semites are getting our Jewish leaders to go along with all these lies!!

When you start calling Cuomo etc. “Nazis”, you immediately lose lots of folks, including many prominent rabbonim and askanim in New York State who strongly disagree with how they have managed the virus from the beginning and are frustrated by their inability to communicate with the frum tzibur but wouldn’t ever adopt your hyperbole.

Because asking people to stay home for 14 days (along with the people they live with) every time they develop a cough, isn’t realistic and will not be followed. Asking people to quarantine until test results come in as negative is.

Why this is so difficult to understand and such a terrible thing is beyond me.

And how many coughs have you come down with since march? The system has been working for many and testing isn’t always available. My complaint is on the people who don’t inform the people the were in contact with the last two weeks. Doesn’t happen often, but shouldn’t happen at all.

Who ever is prone to get daily coughs will need to suffer for the greater good and not test and do a 10 day quarantine if they think its covid because we need the schools and shuls to open back up

Why should people quarantine more than they have to? Why should testing not be done because they are sometimes not available. And most importantly, why exactly do you see testing
    as a bad thing??
