I would like to find a connection between Pidyon Haben and the name of the buy, Daniel Yehuda. Neither Yehuda the shevet or the maccabee were bechorim, so that wont work.
I appreciate any ideas.

Did you mean to say name of the “boy”? But being that it is a Pidyon Haben, calling the child a “buy” may be just as apropos.
January 9, 2013 5:13 pm at 5:13 pm #919837popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell, the passuk talks about Yehuda buying stuff which is normally not thought of as appropriate to purchase. So that is a similarity with pidyon haben where you buy a child, which is not normally thought of as appropriate to purchase.
My real advice: Talk about something else. It is weird to try to connect the name to the concept of pidyon haben. Your name does not have to connect to every life event. I sure hope you didn’t name another kid Avraham so that you would have something to talk about at the bris.
January 9, 2013 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm #919838mordecai98ParticipantActually I’m the Kohen and this is my 1st Pidyon. I know the Kohen doesn’t necessarily speak but I was invited to.
January 9, 2013 6:11 pm at 6:11 pm #919839shmoelMemberMordecai: How old are you? How often does an average Cohen get to do a pidyon? What prompted the parents to choose you (and how do parents usually choose a Cohen)?
January 9, 2013 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #919840computer777Participantgematria from Yehuda is 30. Pidyon haben takes place the 30th day.
January 9, 2013 6:43 pm at 6:43 pm #919841MDGParticipantmordecai98,
Mazel Tov ! I’m jealous. It’s a few years for me. My coins are shined up with no place to go.
Talk about Pidyon Haben in general, and maybe some haaros about it. It’s such an infrequent mitsvah and people are usually busy thinking about the food. Talk about how eating at a P”H is mechaper because it is called Pidyom in the Torah one time. Pidyom is short for Peh Daled (gematria of 84) Yom -> that is that eating at a pidyon haben is like fasting 84 days, which can atone for the worst of sins. That’s why there is a custom to serve food that people will take home and use further, like garlic or sugar, which can be put in soup or other foods.
January 9, 2013 6:57 pm at 6:57 pm #919842computer777ParticipantGematria ???? 95 same as Daniel
Together 95+30 is Kohanim (125)
January 9, 2013 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #919843AlanH923ParticipantRegarding Yehuda and Pideon Haben, as a Father, as I see it, Yehudah had to perform a Pideon Haben for two of his sons- First for his First born son- Er whose mother is referenced as a daughter of a prominent merchant whose name was Shua in Genesis 38:2, and also for his son Perez who is the first born son of Tamar from Yehuda’s leverite marriage with Tamar. Perz, is one of the ancestors of Kind David and the Mochiach.

I’m 29 and this is my first. My sister in law is the mother so there is protexia. My father has 5 or under his belt (or in hi pocket)

Easy:- Yehudah messed up big way, selling away a very close relative:- Joseph. Bear in mind it was Yehudah’s brainwave to sell away Joseph on the day Reuven was attending to his Father:- Yaakov Ovinu.
Meanwhile when you are performing the Mitzwah of Pidyon haBen, you shall be doing the exact antitheses, buying an extremely close family member, and keeping him close by under your TLC.
January 14, 2013 2:35 pm at 2:35 pm #919846yehudayonaParticipantIs protexia anything like dyslexia?
January 14, 2013 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #919847HaLeiViParticipantBy yehuda we find that one child stuck out the hand before the other was born. A nice Halachic discourse can be given about which one are you Podeh, and how does this status relate to Ever Min Hachai and Ben Pikua. Does that hand still have a Din of Yerech Imo? What about the rest of the boy? By an animal, if you were Makdish the hand while it is out, is it Tofes the rest, according to those who hold that nomally it would? What about the mother?
Yehuda got Malchus, which was taken from Reuven. We see right there the concept of Pidyon, or of transfering a title.
January 14, 2013 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm #919848ZeesKiteParticipant147:
I like what you wrote. I’d just phrase it differently, “Yehudah erred by..”. Remember, he was one of the shevatim. Furthermore, his father commended him (I think) for it
January 15, 2013 1:38 am at 1:38 am #9198492scentsParticipantJust a small reminder, don’t reveal you age on any online forum.
Your user name sounds like your name, we know your age, we know that you will be the kohen of a Daniel yehudah that was recently born. And that you are the uncle of this baby.
Sorry about changing the subject, just a friendly reminder!
January 15, 2013 1:57 am at 1:57 am #919850147ParticipantRemember, he was one of the shevatim
Zeeskite:- Notwithstanding this assertion, however when Josef revealed himself “Ani Yosef” the brothers freaked out, because all their theories & make beliefs all crumbled in an instant, and they knew they had been plain wrong.
