April 7, 2011 4:16 am at 4:16 am #757692Diet CokeMemberWow this a huge problem in our house too, nothing seems to work. I don’t understand them most of the men daven in the same shul shouldn’t they go home too ?
April 7, 2011 1:09 pm at 1:09 pm #757693TheGoqParticipantbeen there know it, i agree when the men come home the women should say good shabbos and be on their way, its nice to shmooze but sometimes the shmoozing goes on seemingly forever as a minority man in a mostly female office it does get grating when they shmooze and shmooze and shmooze it never seems to end.
April 7, 2011 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm #757694TheGoqParticipantI don’t want to sound misogynistic but i feel many women are addicted to shmoozing.
April 7, 2011 1:55 pm at 1:55 pm #757695nachasMemberThis happens in my house also. My husband very politely tell everyone that they are welcome to stay for kiddush that they dont have to rush home, but we are making kiddush right now and then he starts to make kiddush. Or he has used a different approach. He tells everyone that their husbands/fathers just came home and are waiting for them to start to make kiddush. Everyone who comes to my house knows that is not true as we are always the first to make kiddush but they get the hint.

The only problem is that some of them have no problem with the fact that their husband/father is waiting.

So make kiddush!
April 7, 2011 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm #757698MDGParticipant“women are addicted to shmoozing” – see Kiddushin 49b among others
April 7, 2011 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm #757699MDGParticipantKnow.it.all said, “some of them have no problem with the fact that their husband/father is waiting”
In other words, these are rude women. They don’t care that they are interrupting your Shabbat, nor do they care about their own homes.
In that case, you need to be a little more forceful. For example, say “we’re making kiddush now” and proceed to the table and make kiddush in a strong voice.
