Looks like I will be at home with the wife and kids and no guests this Purim. We usually have share with wider family. Worried it will be a bit depressing. Especially for the kids.

Anyone got any idea how to make it fun and enjoyable. I don’t mind games or quizzes etc as long as they’re not too far removed from A yiddishe Taam. Eg I don’t think playing some random non Jewish game is what I’m looking for.

We are cooking Indian food because India is specifically mentioned in Megillat Esther.

In the past we have cooked Persian food.

One of these days I will learn to cook Ethiopian food.

We are going to have a huge sudah like achavorosh with everyone showing up and drinking whatever they want, then we take a loudmouth feminist and dispatch her, then we we take a break and fast for a while, we then will set up a gallows in our back yard and hang up some people and then party again

You should ask a shailah about it. Gallows need to be seen from reshut harabim according to my tradition.

meir G. Bravo, let’s make sure no child is left behind! Expose everybody. If it is ok for your kids and students, how dare they

    #1951435

    Leyzer,
if your kids can’t just fight with each other without external help, you are doing something wrong!

Find online questions about Purim and print it with one kid so that he can ask others and then give them prizes. Make some questions simple, and others open-ended, so that a couple of kids could disagree and make it into a discussion. See YWNCR as an example!

Ask everyone to prepare a story and 3 questions after that. Everyone votes on best story. Again, prizes.

    >hang up some people and then party again<

According to the CDC hung persons who are unmasked and not socially distanced have a 100% mortality rate, so be responsible and enforce Covid regulations.

@AAQ, I asked a shialah and told to make it gevoah chameshim amos

    #1951517

ok, height is chameshim amos, but what about bein adam l’havero? shisha reglaim as by CDC, or is it hukas goyim?

    #1951518

PS disregard the previous shaila, of course the whole family can hang together

Charlie & Franklin: We must all hang together

    that was pre-covid and pre-Trump.

@AAQ, “but what about bein adam l’havero? shisha reglaim as by CDC, or is it hukas goyim?” Sorry but not farmilar with a measurement called reglaim, the torah only uses tefachim and amos.
as to bein adam lchavero, the goverment has never been your chaver except maybe in Russia where everyone was a comrade.
Size of the party is permitted as per US Supreme Court ruling

FYI Kush was in Sudan/ Egypt, not Ethiopia
And you would need to cook 127 different types of cuisines

Are you also going to set up harems? Those are also mentioned in the Megillah.

In fact, Indian food would seem to be not in accordance with the Megillah. It says “ymay mishteh vesimcha”. And we know “ayn Simcha ella bebasar veyayin”. Indian food is vegetarian. So it is odd to select specifically Indian food for seudas Purim.

I am going to dress up as Dr. R Levine Dep. Secty. of HHS, the only problem is that some of the people who I showed it to thought it was Dr. Brakish Okun from Independence Day.
Our shul where where masks are generally optional is strongly encouraging everyone to wear full face mask of their favorite villan of 2020.

    >> not farmilar with a measurement called reglaim,

actually 4 amot is about 6 reglaim or 2 meters …. basically privacy is as far as you can spit

    >> it is odd to select specifically Indian food for seudas Purim.

It does happen but does not end well. Muslims do set up seudot in India, then Hindus run in shouting “WHERE IS THE BEEF”. Seuda first, shehitah after

Leyzer, why not search online for “birthday party activities for kids”
and then you can adapt some of those for Chanuka.

Also maybe your wife can compose a type of Boggle, as in:
    CHANUKA CHAGGLE BOGGLE

Then position words associated with Chanuka so they’re similar to Boggle, and have the kids find them. Such as:

    ____S
    ____H
    ____U
    ____S
    ____H
    ____A
    haman
    __O
    __R
    __D
    __ESTHER
    __Charvona
    __H
    __A
    __I

Then to carry it a notch further, maybe gather all the words/names which your kids found, and write each on a separate piece of paper. Fold the papers & shuffle them. Each of your kids then picks one of the papers. For example, lets say Kid Ploni picks one which says “Shushan”, s/he can then pick a food beginning with “S” such as sushi or salad, which would be served as one of the dishes for supper the following week.
…and if Kid Almoni picks “Esther”, then s/he might choose for “E” either deviled Eggs or Eggplant-parmesan as one of the dishes she wants for a meal next week.

We had a fun and joyous purim seudah, we tried to cater 127 different cuisines but the caterer was unable to accommodate so we stuck with Hungarian stuffed cabbage, corn beef, and kugel.
@AAQ we didnt do sisha ragliaim we did shtay ragliam with rekudim.
We were visited by the local code enforcement to complain the gallows was a none conforming use and it exceeded height requirements, I told them that I retained CTLawyer and they left us alone.

I could not find Esther in the Parsha, but found two Vashtis… why two?
