So now we have the “Gehenom of the Day” thread.

OK, as I was saying, I was passing by, (don’t worry, it was on “Just Visiting” – not in the slammer), it felt a bit warm to me. Then I heard faint voices, (screaming, gasping, shrieking, crying, weeping, sobbing, bawling – to be exact), it kinda gave me the picture of what’s inside. I’d prefer not to have to go through that process. Don’t think you would either.

While we’re on this topic (on a serious note, yes I can be when the dire need arises), I’ve heard that upstairs they’re VERY EXACTING on sin of one fellow to another, bain adam l’chaveiro.

I have studied US justice system. It is possible to be sent to prison for a very long time with almost no proof. USA has the highest incarceration rate in the World.

Supermax prisons for the living are similar to Gehenom for souls — total isolation and unimaginable suffering. I used to live close to a large Texas state prison which reminded me of the reality of suffering in this and next world.

Given that I do not like Mathematics in which I have PhD, I study many things.

I had a teacher once who recommended that we listen to a tape describing the suffering of Gehennom for an hour before we go to sleep.

While it is important to be aware of schar v’onesh, wanting to get a reward or to avoid punishment shouldn’t be the reason we serve Hashem.

I do not know. Most Americans and American Jews are much more afraid of prison then Gehennom. I am afraid of eternal Gehennom but not of a punishment for one year.

What type of suffering are we talking? Surely you don’t mean physical?

In Gehinnom as in Supermax prison the suffering is emotional — suffering of the soul. The suffering of someone who spends years in solitary confinement without Internet and usually without TV is hard to imagine.

    (?????? ?): “??? ??? ????, ??? ?????? ????? ????, ??? ???”? ????? ??? ???????, ?????? ??????? ??, ????? “????? ??? ???? ??? ??? ????, ??????? ?????? ??, ????? ??? ??? ?? ???? ????? ??? ‘”.

there is no gehennim except that hashem takes the sun out of its protective shell, the tzaddiqim bask in it and the wicked are judged by it.

rabbi zev leff shlt”a asks that what does this mean? what is the analogy of the sun? he explains, it is the pure, unadulerated light of the truth. that he will one day shed light on our lives, and show us if we lived a life of truth or if it was one big lie. and sometimes the truth can be devastating.

I can’t believe a teacher of torah and yiddishkeit is allowed to scare children into submission by telling them to listen to tapes about gehennom!! What a terrible way to go to sleep! Rather, you know what we DO say before going to sleep? We say Shema, an expression of our love for Hashem. What a much more beautiful way to end the day by strengthening our relationship with HKBH through saying this maamar.

I believe Wolf of Wolfish is the local authority on these things. He often claims to have a reservation.

I do not know — unfortunately I do not have much fear.

Once in Texas I saw a special bus — without air conditioning, with plexiglass windows, with very strong doors and with several steel — reinforced separated compartments. At that time, the bus was without passengers.

Most passengers who are carried by this bus had no fear of Gehennom. That is one of the reasons US justice system is the harshest in the world — in order to be feared by those who have no fear of G-d.
