How many people here have a geni family tree? My family recently got into it and it is amazing how most frum people I know have a parent/grandparent etc. on there and I am practically related somehow to everyone. I know how I am 25 generations from Rashi and many other famous RAbonim.

It would be very nice if we all got involved and entered all the relatives we know and the tree will be more complete.

Chacham do you (or someone in your family) have the DNA tested? Which company did your family use to take a DNA sample from?

Rashi lived 950 or so years ago, that is more like 40 generations at least, not 25. In any case, since we Jews have 2 to the 40th power ancestors going back 40 generations (minus the overlapping of ancestors) , it is likely that almost all of us, excluding converts, are descendants of Rashi. Me too.

We’ve had a Geni accounht for several years. While there isn’t the same enthusiasm among its participants as there was originally, it’s still a lot of fun to find connections. We discovered an entire branch of my FIL’s family that’s frum.

It’s a great tool, highly recommend it, although don’t say I didn’t warn you that genealogy is one of the most addictive hobbies out there.
