I recently became the hostess of a host of ants. Now, the exterminator is coming next week. But I have a problem.
A few weeks ago, I decided that rather than being upset about having ants in my room, they would become my pets. Like watching rats in the tracks from a subway platform, I sit on the edge of my bed watching them crawl about. They are my personal ant farm.
How do you make something your pet? By naming them.
So I have called my ants names. I call them names, after my aunts. The babies are Ant Devora, the medium sized are Ant Pesya and the big ones are Great Ant Jennifer. I have not asked my ants (nor aunts) for their opinion on the matter.
What should I do? The exterminator is coming next week and I will sorely miss my industrious aunty ants.

That would eat them up. Then you can call it Tarantula Devorah or something.

None are named after the above gentleman?

Yes you have a problem. You are wrong for calling the exterminator. You are the hostess of the host, so the ants are not your guests. You need to work this out with the host.

August 15, 2013 2:28 pm at 2:28 pm #984311ED IT ORParticipantAre you halachically allowed to exterminate them?
August 15, 2013 2:58 pm at 2:58 pm #984312oomisParticipantIs it Purim again?

October 29, 2013 9:52 pm at 9:52 pm #984314popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, get a cat to eat the ants. And a dog to take care of the cat. And a stick…
October 30, 2013 12:34 am at 12:34 am #984315HaLeiViParticipantI don’t know if you want to go down that road. It can get dangerous.
October 30, 2013 1:56 pm at 1:56 pm #984316WIYMemberWell you can always call off the exterminator or just get a real ant farm. Why the heck do you watch the rats and why the heck would you want ants in your room? Uch eew gross yuck.
October 31, 2013 1:01 pm at 1:01 pm #984317notasheepMemberI had an ant problem a few weeks ago. I put down powder around where I thought they were coming from and they have not been seen since. Better than an exterminator
October 31, 2013 3:20 pm at 3:20 pm #984318Torah613TorahParticipantWith thanks to Hashem, I am pleased to announce that my room has been ant-free for 2 months now.
