Anyone have any preferences? Glasses are annoying because they sit on your face all day. Contacts are annoying because you have to put them in and take them out, and you have to buy new ones quite often.
July 18, 2013 3:36 pm at 3:36 pm #966482ObstacleIllusionParticipantConatcts, I buy monthlies, they can stay in my eyes for a week a or two, buy them once every six to ten months.
July 18, 2013 3:44 pm at 3:44 pm #966483🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantContacts with glasses for when you have a bad reaction to a particular lens solution. Although glasses give your neck exercise because your head needs to turn to look at things instead of just your eyes moving…
July 18, 2013 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm #966484oomisParticipantBoth are needed. Contacts actually give you better vision than glasses of the same presciption strength. But it is not easy for everyone to adapt to them or spend the time putting them in, etc. My daughter is SO motivated to wear lenses and not yet found a single pair that is comfortable. She has astigmatism, but the astigmatic lenses are extremely uncomfortable for her. She has tried COUNTLESS pairs of different types, and wears them even though they are never comfortable for her, but she would be thrilled to find a pair that fit and give her good vision. Any ideas?
July 18, 2013 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm #966485TheGoqParticipantCan we be honest please? the main reason some people prefer contacts over glasses is because they feel they look better without glasses, there is nothing wrong with wanting to feel good about how you look but lets at least be honest.
July 18, 2013 4:29 pm at 4:29 pm #966486ObstacleIllusionParticipantGoq: It’s much more trendy to wear glasses these days.
July 18, 2013 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #966487🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantoomis- I know this isn’t much of a help, but maybe visit a specialist once, and always take the company he recommends. For prescriptions any regular doctor will do.
July 18, 2013 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #966488jewishfeminist02MemberGoq, I will be honest. I usually wear contacts even though my husband thinks I look better in glasses. Contacts are more comfortable and they give me better vision. Glasses are more convenient, but let’s be real, if the entire point of glasses and contacts is to correct vision, you should go with whatever does the best job of that, and for me it’s contacts.
July 18, 2013 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #966489lesschumrasParticipantContacts provide much sharper vision. Starting with hard lenses,I’ve worn them for 50 years. Ten years ago I had issues and was referred to a Dr who specialized in contacts. It was, worth it as,she had access to types my regular Dr didn’t
July 18, 2013 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #966490yentingyentaParticipantI wear both. my rx is 700 in each eye and I see better with contacts. Oomis, I also have an astigmatism and I wear proclear toric lens from coopervision and they are really comfortable
July 18, 2013 6:18 pm at 6:18 pm #966491TheGoqParticipantTangent time i was in Costco a couple weeks ago a frum mother was in there with her teenage son they must have tried on every single pair of glasses in the place and then walked out without buying a thing were they just using Costco to find which frame they liked best only to buy it somewhere else?
July 18, 2013 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #966492OneOfManyParticipantI have the aforementioned astigmatism problem, so glasses. I am so used to seeing myself in glasses that my reflection plain unnerves me when I go without. (That might also be due to the fact that I can’t really see it.)
July 18, 2013 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm #966493jewishdudeMemberboruch, what a wonderful question you posed. it is brilliantly constructed and a real way to make us all use our minds in a productive manner. i, personally, have had glasses for almost 13 years, and have not yet had the courage to make the step and get contacts. but you, boruch, have begun the process which i have waited a long time for. i think now, after reading this thread, i may be ready.
thank you again boruch and tisku lemitzvot!
July 18, 2013 7:17 pm at 7:17 pm #966494BoruchSchwartzParticipantwell jewishdude you must understand. i am an exceedingly smart man.

July 18, 2013 7:27 pm at 7:27 pm #966498BoruchSchwartzParticipantwell let us not forget. i am an 87. what are you OneofMany?
July 18, 2013 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #966499writersoulParticipantI only recently got contacts (after a lot of nudging from my mom) and it’s fantastic. I can actually SEE in the pool! (Both of my eyes are >6.00, so it REALLY makes a difference.) I was wearing my glasses on the fast and I barely recognized myself in them. (Which reminds me, I should get new frames. My old ones are AWFUL.)
There’s also this cool thing I discovered while wearing them. Peripheral vision, I think it was… cool stuff. 🙂
July 18, 2013 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm #966500jewishfeminist02Memberwritersoul, welcome to the club!
And yes, if you don’t like your frames you should replace them. I resisted because I figured hey, I never wear them anyway, so what’s the point? Then eventually I got an eye irritation because I slept in my contacts too much, and I had to wear my glasses for a week straight. That got annoying fast.
July 18, 2013 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm #966501writersoulParticipantThanks!
It would be funny for me to wear the same frames for four years and then suddenly replace them as soon as I get contacts… but still, I will be wearing them, especially by school, so I probably will :).

Thanks YY. It is possible she already has tried them. She has a really irregularly shaped cornea, and so far, the lenses don’t stay on in place. She HAS been to a lens specialist. Two, in fact.

You never tried prescription goggles? They’re actually pretty cheap on amazon.
July 19, 2013 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm #966505oomisParticipantMy daughter actually is presently trying the toric contacts that were mentioned. NOT working out…
July 19, 2013 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #966506yentingyentaParticipantSorry to hear that 🙁 hope she can find something that works
July 19, 2013 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #966507kfbParticipantI’ve had contacts since I was 13 years old. They’re amazing especially because I always play basketball. What’s annoying is people always ask me if I wear colored contacts
