Hello everyone,
I’m a pre-medical student, currently applying to medical school for next September.
Anyone else out there going through this process as well?
December 5, 2011 3:45 pm at 3:45 pm #833475HealthParticipantGood Luck! Which ones did you apply to?
December 5, 2011 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #833476thecuriousoneMemberThanks! I applied to practically every NY med school, as well as a bunch of out-of-state schools (Northwestern, Georgetown, George Washington, Hopkins, etc).
Applied in July – 4 interviews so far (waiting for acceptances – I hope soon!)
I’m assuming from your screen name that you are in health care as well – what do you do?
December 6, 2011 2:30 am at 2:30 am #833478always runs with scissors fastParticipantwow I am totally jealous. I dream of being an obstetrician. BUT DREAM Is the key word. GOOD LUCK. Be matzliach.
December 6, 2011 2:58 am at 2:58 am #833479RABBAIMParticipantTime to start learning and reviewing NISHMAT AVRAHAM in depth!!!
If you are going to be an MD let it be as a shaliach of Hashem with clarity in all aspects of Yiras Shamayim and medical Halacha!
there is tons in those volumes……..
December 6, 2011 4:14 am at 4:14 am #833480thecuriousoneMemberRABBAIM- Those books look very interesting! I think I’m going to order them very soon.
Always runs with scissors fast – it’s never too late; I’ve heard of someone who went to med school at 52 years old!
December 6, 2011 4:40 am at 4:40 am #833481YenteMemberMy wife went through this last year. B”H she was accepted and is currently an MS1. She applied to one place. She wasn’t interested in any other school. Good Luck with your application and even more, Good Luck going through Medical School.

Yes, I’m in the medical field; can’t answer the second half because of privacy concerns here in the CR.
“I applied to practically every NY med school, as well as a bunch of out-of-state schools (Northwestern, Georgetown, George Washington, Hopkins, etc).”
A lot of Frum Jews go to Downstate. You should also apply to “DO” schools -I think there are 3 in the NYC area. Also Robert Wood Johnson U of M&D in NJ.
December 6, 2011 10:35 pm at 10:35 pm #833484thecuriousoneMemberYente, BTGuy: Thanks!
Health: I did apply to Downstate (interviewed as well). In terms of DO – I don’t have anything against it, but I would rather go though the MD track. Even though I know there is practically no difference between the two these days! 🙂
At the end of the day, people gravitate more to MDs than DOs – at least for now.
December 6, 2011 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #833485always runs with scissors fastParticipantHealth, that would explain why you asses every one in the CR and evaluate them for needing mental health care and meds!

Look no one said you have to become a DO, but you are closing all doors before any is opened up. Apply to DO schools, apply to RWJ in NJ. If they accept you and others do too -you’ll have the choice of where to go. But if no one accepts you -maybe these will. And in NJ, where I live there seems to be more DO’s practicing than MD’s. I also recommend sending the schools as many professional recommendations that you can get your hands on. Do you know any Docs? Get from all previous professors.
