To all those who have quite the Torah knowledge out there…

I am looking for a meforash/gemara/maamer chazal/anything Jewish which talks about the description of a good teacher.

(p.s. it should be an actual source that I can actually find not like Rabbi Blah spoke at the Blah convention and say blah blah)

    Thanks!!

    Happy Shtieging 🙂

Oh! You had Rabbi Blah for a teacher too? Wasn’t he great? A bit blah sometimes, but still…

I was scared I would get these kind of responses…

Chapter 1 Mishna 6 of Pirkei Avot

“Yehoshua ben (son of) Perachia and Nittai of Arbel received the transmission from them [the rabbis of Mishna 4]. Yehoshua ben Perachia said: Make for yourself a rabbi, acquire for yourself a friend, and judge every person favorably.”

The gemara says that if your rebbe teaches you the wrong pronunciation of a word, making it the wrong word, you should stab him and kill him with a spear.

You see the imprortance of being a good teacher.

@gammit- i know, i know its all my fault but i couldnt resist writing it either

@popa- So how do you see this going down? I need this for a thank you speech for a teacher of mine and I will stand up in front of my whole grade and all my grade’s teachers and say: “Teacher, Baruch Hashem you haven’t taught me anything wrong otherwise I would have had to kill you. Thanks for teaching me right these past four years. It’s been real.” Emotional speech, no?

“you should stab him and kill him with a spear.”

I think it should be a sword considering that it’s based on the pasuk of

    “????? ???? ???? ???”

PAA: Ok, but doesn’t the gemara say he used a romach? Or am I disremembering?

The Gemara says ??????. Jastrow translates it as sword but who knows? Maybe it really means spear. But my argument was based on the pasuk.

The Gemara stresses the importance of a teacher being precise.
