I just got an email from Google inviting me to join Google Voice (which I am still a bit unclear as to what it actually is).
Does anyone have any experiences using Google Voice?
Thanks

This is useful if you do not want to give out home/mobile numbers etc – Google Voice will allow you to set up the phones to ring when people phone your Google Voice number.
Other features includes call screening, being able to listen in before picking up, sms sending/receiving, call forwarding, etc
It’s based on a technology pioneered by a company called GrandCentral, which Google took over some time ago – this has been eagerly looked forward to as a new way to send/receive communications
Hope that this helps!

January 13, 2010 1:02 am at 1:02 am #672726d aMemberDoes anybody know how Google VOic “makes up” phone numbers? And this is what I mean:
When somebody sends a text message to my Google Voice number, I get a text on my phone from a number usually starting in area code 406… and in the message box, it says the person’s phone number. Now, if I CALL that 406 number, it will call the person who sent me the text and my Google Voice will appear in his caller ID.
I want to know how I can figure out what Google usese to make up that 406 number so that I can call or text people using my Google Voice number.
